I've had two alternators, NAPA replacements, fail in the course of the last two months. Got 6 weeks out of the first one, 2 weeks (probably 50 miles) out of the second one. What happened is, they worked just fine, and then out of the blue upon startup I noticed the ammeter needle over on...
It's hot in the garage. Hoping for some ideas with this to save some sweatin'...
'68 Plymouth converted to electronic ignition years ago, FBO ECU, matching Pertronix coil, no ballast. Box mounts on the inside of the firewall, behind the glove box area. All components well grounded...
Well, I finished swapping heads on my RB and fired it up to run for a minute to season the freshly-recoated headers, check for leaks, etc. I static-timed it, just like I always do, to be at about 20-24 degrees at idle. It was running kinda rough so I got it warmed up enough to idle on it's own...

Hi guys, I just got a new alternator due to the old one seizing up without notice... The new one I noticed has a stud and two spade terminals marked 'field', whereas my old one only had one field terminal... I hook my wire to one and simply ground the other one am I remembering that correctly...
The turn signal indicators and instrument backlights work--sometimes. Usually for a few minutes then they quit...might work again later sometimes no. I assume it's a grounding issue. That said, I don't see any grounds on the schematics so I figure it grounds through screws in the dash frame...
A question about the temp gauge sending unit on my 68...just dug out my harness and the wire has the stud-type connector it seems. I put a new sender in the 440, it said it was for the temp gauge not the light,(my car has a gauge) but now I'm not sure...thanks! Here's the pictures of the unit...
