I’m not having much luck finding the original jet and rod numbers for this carb to see if they are stock or close. It still has the 3 step rods and tall jets up front so I suspect they are original but the numbers on the secondary jets are hard to read and I haven’t any idea if they are close...
I’m rebuilding an old Carter AVS I’ve had laying around for a couple decades. I tore it down this morning and I’m wondering if something is missing back by the air valve - maybe a hot idle compensator?
The two small holes are threaded but maybe they didn’t use the compensator on this model -...
I’ve found two stated original lengths for the RB fuel pump push rod - 3.25” an 3.22. Mine measures 3.218” which if original length is 3.22” is negligible, or if original length is 3.25”, then it has about 1/32” wear which also seems fairly minimal wear. Sound good?
I rebuilt the Carbs last year in my 66 Hemi - these are original AFBs - using kits from Mikes Carburetors. Other than setting adjustments per specs I didn’t play around much with the accelerator pump operation. The car drives normally very well but I’ve noticed the few times I’ve eased off in...
Not on a Mopar but on a friends old Mustang 289 hi-po. I’ve had this carb apart 3 times now and we can’t get it to run. A mechanic tried his luck first on the carb but he left it in pretty bad shape and then I got to work on it. It won’t idle. It runs on the accelerator pump and on the main...
Trying to get my Hemi choke system back to functioning properly. It worked fine last winter but is sort of balky in kicking off now. I understand the system pretty well except for one area. What counterbalances the choke system to pull the choke blade fully open as the bimetallic spring heats...
I went through the 66 Hemi carbs last winter and had everything working good including the choke system. A couple months ago I had a hanging fast idle and the choke plate was dragging from something in the choke housing. I could cycle it some and free it up but it has continued to be sticky...
I have an AFB that uses 3-step metering rods - has the pop up covers, etc. FSM confirms it. Someone stuck 2-step rods in it so I need to correct. Question - are standard height jets and standard piston springs used with the 3-step rods?
I’m beginning to think this Hemi may never see the road again. Last time I started it, one of those plastic fuel filters ruptured and sent gas everywhere. After replacing those and finishing up some other work, I tried to fire it up again today - only to have the front carb leak all over...
I replaced the old plastic filters on my 66 Hemi a few weeks ago with a set from Classic. First time I ran the car after rebuilding the carbs everything was fine, after which it set for a few weeks while I was working on this and that. Fired it up today with the hood open and instantly saw...
Pulled of the carbs on my engine today to check how the are set up. Only pulled the top on the front carb before quitting for the day but didn’t find stock jets in it so probably need to make some changes, These are correct number 66 carbs and look to be in really nice shape.
I know the stock...
Is there a good source for Carter AFB restoration/replacement parts, such as screws, various rod links, secondary piston covers, choke pieces, etc? Stuff you won’t find in a rebuild kit.
Mikes Carburetors seems to have some stuff listed - just wondered if there was a place that really...
My car lacks the lower choke tube - the one from underside of exhaust manifold running up to the air cleaner base. I have a reproduction tube. Is it even possible to snake this thing in, in an assembled car or am I wasting my time? Would removing the intake heat tubes give enough room. Or...
Trying to get familiar with this 66 Satellite Hemi I recently purchased and what’s - what. I know it has an early 67 block and has what seems to be a mild hydraulic cam so there are some originality issues with the car. The carbs seem to be generally correct - 4139 & 4140 with C6 dates.
my...
