Points or electronic ?
Points just use the standard old 2 spade , some of the 73 and up use a quad set , the it depends on if you have a 4 pin or 5 pin ECU.
To be honest I've seen conversions run on the old original 2 spade ballast with no problem.

Dumb as it sounds, if it has a choke plate make sure it's not closing.
Also try dripping fuel through the carb and see if you can keep it going.
If it will not run like that it's probably on the electric side.
I like to warm it up, get the oil and fuel flowing around.
I did put new exhaust on it 11 or 12 years ago after the header install .

Guess i could weld in some dumps at the collectors to uncork but it seems to be holding up.

Im sure you have but, one more thing is trace or follow your tail pipe routing.
Make sure they do not contact any part of the car except the hangers.
Also make sure all hangers are tight at the mounting point and insulated/rubber hung.
