    Post your 12 second combos

I got the car across the scales. With no one in the car and 2 gals of fuel it hit right at 3400. I’m 260. lol Thats pounds not kilos. Picked up a p/s hose leak and a left rear brake locking up. Those get fixed end of the month. I’m gonna run it on the old shocks. I live in WNC and right near...

Bushing six pack rods for 1.094 pins

I have the speed pro flat tops in mine on LY rods. I didn’t build it. I have built big block Chevys with a honed to slip fit steel on steel. Drilled a small hole in the rod top for pin oiling. You can buy alloy round bar and easily cut pin buttons on a hobby level lathe.

Bushing six pack rods for 1.094 pins

If I remember correctly all of Scat’s H Beams are 4340. The owner would periodically take a sample rod and crank and cut them up. He would send the pieces to a lab for a metallurgy report.

Is there a better cam for me?

I’m enjoying this thread. I’ve used a lot of 105lsa flat tapped cams in 383/400 small block chevies. 11 to 1 287/295 adv 256/264 @050 .537/.557. 105lsa 99icl. I used aftermarket heads and 1.6 rockers. Made great torque and hp. Sounded wicked. My 440 has 10.5 to 1, CNC stealths, Isky 292 mega...

    Rear tire fitment

275/60/15 coopers fit nicely on my 63. 3.73s with a locker, caltrac bars and monoleafs. Maybe leaves on primary’s ok but open the rear barrels 20 ft out and they start spinning all the way in first haven't tried hitting second while their spinning.

Mopar 440 forged or cast crank and balancer

Yup cast cracks have weights welded on the converter. No weights it’s forged.

    Flameless wrist pin install

You can put the wrist pins in the freezer also. Shrinks them so you don’t need as much heat.

Broke down and tried a new converter

I have no low apply in mine. The builder didn’t tell me what he was doing. I trusted him to do me right. He was an old timer trans builder. Art Carr. He just passed this year.

Broke down and tried a new converter

I have a supposed 3000 stall 11 inch in mine. But if I lock it in 3rd and gas it at 2200 it only flashes to about 2700. In first it will light the tires even at less than full throttle. I’m betting a good 10 or 9.5 would improve performance but for me is it worth the cost.

I love those cars. The interiors just rock.

Flat tappet lifters, wear patterns, cam lobe taper and other things. Let's swap opinions and ideas.

If you think about it. As the lobes became more aggressive the seat and over the nose pressures have increased. Most of the cams I’ve seen that were going flat all started on the nose. A cam with a 350# spring and a 1.5 rocker put 525# on a maybe .200 diameter contact patch. That is about .03 of...

    LSA Question

Yup I’m thinking a 2800 to 3000 stall that has low slip above lockup. My car weighs 3400 empty with 2 gal of fuel. And I’m running 3.73s with 275/60/15 tires. Right now Cooper cobras but some sort of street drag radial would be appropriate. My thoughts are that a lot of this is dependent upon...

    LSA Question

I’m thinking street mostly. Sound tough at cruise night and not need to shift beyond maybe 6k if raced.

    LSA Question

I believe that the vast majority of the guys on this forum have either stock or lightly ported iron heads. A few have stealths and less still Trick Flows or Indy’s. That’s my main thought process. Restricted flow for the given displacement. I’m loving the feedback. Pumping up the midrange is my...

    LSA Question

I agree. A [email protected] with a 106 would have a tremendous amount of overlap. It would blow too much charge right out the exhaust valve on overlap. Don’t forget my main premise for the thread was a low compression, under 10.5 440 with heads flowing approximately 270 at .500 lift. That seems to be a...

    LSA Question

I hadn’t seen the Isky one. But John K was my customer at Scat. I was their senior engine tech. Worked with drag, nascar, road race and factories. I really learned a lot working with these teams and guys from the factories. I had lots of guys we helped on the Engine Masters challenge. John used a...

    LSA Question

So the cam I’m using as an example here has pretty aggressive ramps. Only 30 degrees of ramp so that means 15 degrees from .020 rocker clearance valve on the seat till valve hits .050. Same for closing. Tight LSA but only 84 degrees of overlap. Don’t get me wrong. I know on a motor with good...

    LSA Question

I agree with this. Street cars need mid range. My numbers are 3 to 6.5k. Pump gas. 3000 converter. My 440 has 270 to 280 Cfm at .500 to .600 lift. Not a lot for a big block. So a fat mid range would be fun if you could hook it up.
