I was just looking at the Schumacher bolt through rear transmission mount for my 727, the factory one is already shot in only a few thousand miles. This one looks pretty solid, a bit expensive, but worth it if it doesnt fall apart like the factory style one. Anyone using one of these?
Speedway Motors Drive Shafts - Anyone ever get one from them?
Just curious if anyone has purchased one of the custom balanced drive shaft assemblies from Speedway motors and how is the product quality?
Interesting dilemma for the torque specification for my vibration damper bolt! My 73 service manual states 135 foot pounds in the install instructions but the specification sheet in the manual for the 340 states 100 foot pounds. I also looked in my old Chilton's, and it says 135 except for 71...
I am curious, I have read a couple of threads, but it was clear if anyone has changed a small block timing chain cover gasket without removing the oil pan. I really don't want to go through the process of pulling the motor to change the oil pan gasket while I am doing the timing cover gasket...
So, the more I drive my car since its been restored, only 600 miles on rebuilt trans, but I have noticed the shift between 2nd and 3rd is hesitant, almost feels like its trying to go into 3rd before 2nd is disengaged or maybe even getting a bit neutral before the shift to 3rd. This happens when...
So, I removed my water pump, was going to replace the gasket and use some thread sealant on the bolts, and was blowing air into the bolt holes that go through the timing chain cover, and noticed there was air coming out around the timing chain cover where the gasket goes.
So, should I change...
A bit puzzled as my reverse lights only work when I remove the neutral safety switch from my 727 transmission. I tested with two new switches and same result. When its installed in the car and hooked up, the neutral safety part works, but no reverse lights. I'm beginning to wonder if the...
I was just thinking the other day while working on my thermoquad and how much it really growls when opened up and now that I am running higher compression and bigger cam, will the stock single snorkel air cleaner allow enough air flow for the motor or would it be better to open up the flow. I...
So, long story short, my builder stated I should set my timing at 17 degrees BTDC, and the distributor is only using the mechanical advance with the 272 cam installed on my 340. So I have been running like that for a while, and it runs good, but since I started tuning the carb, I noticed when...
So, I fired up my 340, just rebuilt, most likely only a couple of hours on her, the builder did the cam break in, told me to change out the break in oil when I get her running, and I did that, refilled with Brad Penn 10w 40, oil pressure looks good, middle of the dash gage, but there is a bit of...
Anyone know where I can find a cross reference for Autolite to Champion spark plugs?
Just curious, as my motor used to run Champion rn12yc's back in the day, but the builder put in Autolite 66 plugs, guessing these are a bit hotter, because of higher compression and bigger cam. Just want...
So, anyone with small block able to run the stock 727 trans cooler lines? Or did you have to do something custom? I didn't see any application notes for this issue from TTI. Guess I will call them again, but if you have run lines, let me know how you did it!!!!
Just wondering what everyone is doing for either zinc oil or zinc oil additives, as my 340 will require the use of zinc oil. My builder mentioned some brand name they user, forgot it at the moment, but would like to know what everyone else is using whether its zinc oil or regular oil with zinc...
I sent out my drive shaft to get checked for balance and true, and they called me today saying that the yoke on one end needed replaced because the u-joints don't seat properly. anyway the end he mentioned was the wide end of the drive shaft and he stated that is the end that goes to the...
So, getting ready to send out the 340 for rebuild, its the original motor for my 73 Roadrunner, and i want to get a bit more performance.
I dont want to go to crazy as it will be driven on the street and the highway. Its an automatic car with 3.55 gears. I am also thinking about bumping up...
Does anyone just make just the insert for the 727 tail shaft mount? I have seen plenty of complete mounts, but mine is good and just needs a new insert, similar to what was done with the engine mounts? If you know where to get let me know, cant seem to find, maybe i am not searching correctly.
So my newly rebuilt carrier has a leak, and hasn't been driven yet. The seal on the front of the carrier where the pinion flange goes in has a slow drip. A mechanic buddy of mine indicated that special tools are required to change this seal, and I should just pull the carrier and take it back...
So, i ordered a snubber bumper for my 8.75, but it does not match, and seems to be the only style i have seen. Has anyone seen one like this? Is this maybe off a different car model or year?
Here is what the original looks like, and the replacement, but not correct.
On the 3rd member to housing gasket, any recommendations to use any sort of gasket sealing compound? Same thing for the axle gaskets, the innter is metal( i am guessing no since it looks like a crush type gasket), the outer is regular gasket material.
Advice to make sure i do this properly...
I looked at the Thermoquad Guide sticky, but did not see any CFM information.
My question, would a TQ-6322 be over kill for my 340 with just a slight bump in compression and a taller cam? Originally the car had a 6319, which i believe is 561CFM? Looking for something in the 700cfm range.
