This spring, I switched from the stock water pump to the Flowkooler with a Stewart 180 degree thermostat on my 440 which has always had a tendency to heat up in traffic. It gets pretty hot here in Nebraska during the summer but to my delight the motor never got over 205
degrees....which...
Update: Success! I was able to adjust the front band by backing it out exactly 2 turns before snugging it down. I've got a Transgo shift kit in it with a 3.8 lever. No more clunks and my 1-2 shift is smooth at low rpm and firm (like I want) when getting after it.
Thanks fellas! I'll report back with the results in a few days. Waiting on a 3/8 drive 1/4 square female socket to turn the adjuster - not enough room in there for my fingers!
Think I need to adjust a band. The trans shifts perfect from 2nd to 3rd and after much tinkering have the factory kickdown adjusted right so the shift points are solid but the 1-2 shift feels pretty loose/sloppy and even clunks sometimes at low rpm. Does the front band that is adjusted from the...
Thanks for chiming in on this. I felt like 2 1/2" pipes would be a good fit for my combo and very happy no issues with the old tips! I'm planning on ordering the TTI exhaust system..probably with the H-Pipe.
It'll be a street car 95% of the time but I might get it out to the drag strip one day. So it won't be high rpm driven other than the usual street mischief. The motor is a .30 over 440 with a mild port job to the heads. Cam is a .510 lift hydraulic roller, Holley 750, TTI 1 3/4" headers. It just...
My old, original rusty exhaust got tossed during the rebuild and I'm ready to pull the trigger on new 2 1/2" exhaust, mufflers, etc. I noticed my original chrome exhaust tips are smaller in diameter than 2 1/2" and they originally tucked inside the old, stock 2 1/4" exhaust pipes. They're still...
You nailed it. Everything is sitting perfect now but the locating pin in the passenger side mount in the photo doesn't want to properly engage. I do remember comparing these mounts to my old 25 year old mounts before installing them and the pins on these were not as stout. I picked these up at...
Thanks guys I figured things out. The mounts are in correctly just needed a little nudge then some minor adjusting to get the trans mount lined up. She's good to go! Thanks
Got the 440 installed yesterday but when bolting up the rubber tranny mount I noticed the 2 bolt holes are off about a 1/2 inch or so and want to make sure I have my steel mounts on the correct side. The steel mount with the long bolt is on the drivers side which is how I remember them coming...
This is why I love this site! Good information like this helps keep me from banging my head against the wall. In 1983, my first car was an all-original 70 Superbee with a Hurst pistol grip and 383 magnum. $1500 bucks and seemed like a lot at the time for kid anyway. Haha! Bought the Coronet in...
Thanks guys for sharing your thoughts here! So it sounds like I could probably use the solid state OEM appearing voltage regulator I pictured but it would be overall better to opt for a more modern solid state VR version like the one Don F. suggested.
Is it that my OEM looking VR is basically...
After 17 years of deep hibernation I'm finally on the cusp of getting my R/T back on the road. It's taken me 3 years to fix literally everything from front to back but it has been a blast!
Need a little help down the stretch.
Here's what I've got:
Original 440 magnum freshly rebuilt

Just wanted to follow up to report that cracking the brake lines at the master while under pressure cleared out an air pocket and I now have a firm pedal. Thanks for the tip Junior340!
