I put a chrome thermostat body on my 318 poly and no mater what I do It leaks at the gasket.I`m thinking of putting the origonal back on.Anyone have a problem like this?

Well I seem to have a leak , does not happen all the time but I don`t think its from after manifold ,think its from manifold. car realy gets the smell of exhaust at times I think I can hear at times but I am not sure.Anyone give sugestions on what to do next? Want to do headers but its a poly so...
