I don't see any daylight between the bearing and the axle where it stops I have to take it to a friends place and try his press. I did slip the axles into the housing and have roughly 2" between the ends. Not sure what that should be
I removed the shiny retainer plate and inner seal from the housing and gained 1/8 " that's about 1/4" total into the second set of splines of the sure grip. Next up are the bearings and collar pressed all the way on.
1. It has to have green bearings for the disc brakes
2. The plate slips right over the O-ring it just sandwiches the snap ring to the outer retainer, I'm thinking it's not needed.
3. It is a possibility the bearing and spacer could press on farther. I'll play with it more tomorrow.
Ok I went out and put a straight edge across the splined end to the outside of the flange and got 29 3/16. The housing is 54 15/16 so all is good on those parts so I'm down to center section or green bearings.
Working on a 69 b-body with a 489 center section cone limited slip. Housing is 55" axles are both just shy of 29 1/2" flange to the end. One and maybe both axles are barely engaging the inner splines of the center section. You can see in the picture it buzzed off the end of the splines on a test...
Zinc, Phosphorous were removed because they kill catalytic converters, the old oils had detergent in them also. I don't think race oil ever had detergents in them.
I just got a set of those and they don't have the raised captive cage nut for a Charger. The factory sticker even says b-body Coronet except Charger on them. But thanks
