Trying to get better braking out of my 67 GTX 11” drums

Similar situation in central PA with the white tailed deer. When I used to drive that drum brake GTX to the Chrysler Nationals, with an early morning start, I'd detour through downtown, rather than expose myself to deer crossing the road by my development. I have power discs in the current car...

    Carlisle 2025 Show Discount

I booked my lodging early, and the rate had increased, so I only did two nights. Maybe I should cancel and re-book? Same place as last year. Will register this year with my buddy's Ram. Still smarting from last year's episode with law enforcement, even though I beat the ticket, GTX may stay...

Trying to get better braking out of my 67 GTX 11” drums

I was used to really long stopping distances. The car stopped well compared to my daily driver.

What will it bring? 1967 Hemi GTX @ Mecum.

If I had deeper pockets, that red '69 Hemi GTX would make a nice pair with the Demonstrator. Almost makes me wish I'd worked another year. But not quite.

What will it bring? 1967 Hemi GTX @ Mecum.

One of the reasons they don't show up on sites like this one is that really nice, cherished examples, tend to be held by their owners until they end up in an estate sale, and the family chooses the easiest means of liquidating the asset. The only winner in that scenario is the auction company...

What will it bring? 1967 Hemi GTX @ Mecum.

I bought a terrific numbers matching '68 Hemi GTX on this site four years ago. Sold it to another FBBO member a year later, when a car I liked better became available. In each purchase and sale, my fellow members and myself got tremendous satisfaction out of keeping our hard earned money out...

Going to check a 68 Charger

The key issue is whether it was done well, or a hack job. One of my seven GTXs was a hack job. I inspected the car, and with that knowledge, bought it cheap, from a flipper who realized he was upside down. I was willing to take a bit of a hit getting it cleaned up, because of colors, options...

    1969 Road Runner preservation

Baby Blue ran identical times at Capitol Raceway, stock 440 GTX with 3:23 rear. My buddy Bob ran slicks a couple times, got a best of 13.92. He was a Chevy guy, who ended up with the GTX on a fluke deal. He says to this day that Mopar had Chevy completely beat if it was pure stock with each...

Trying to get better braking out of my 67 GTX 11” drums

If you can get them, no substitute for original parts. When I bought Baby Blue the second time in 2013, I had a leaky master cylinder I replaced with a good reproduction of the original Bendix unit. Car still had the original drums, and asbestos brake linings my friend Bob had installed at...

Post up facts and things that hardly anyone knows...... (for entertainment purposes only. NO need to fact check)

Nitrogen has also been employed to reduce ignition risks in the transportation of flammable dry bulk products. I dealt with it personally in unloading powdered magnesium. The trailer would be pressurized by means of a closed nitrogen system, with gas being captured when it was done pushing...

FBBO cumulative years of Mopar knowledge, experience, passion - Post up your time

I got my driver's license in 1969, and started doing maintenance on my dad's 1960 Valiant the same year, moving up from the small engines I started with when I mowed lawns, using my own equipment. My mom's car was still under warranty, so it was serviced at the local Plymouth dealership. The...

Pics from Back in the Day

I drove one of those at the truck driver school I attended in 1976, used it for backing practice in the yard. Didn't have the Chrysler logo, but otherwise identical.

Another 'how old is everybody' thread.....

My wife went through the identical eye issue at 60. Hip replacement the next year. Last year she took up pickle ball and started playing daily. At 72, she is contemplating knee replacements so she can keep up at that rate. Like our cars, it's an issue of ongoing maintenance if you want to...

I was able to triple my post rate after I retired.

What are your Mopar goals for 2025?

The last one I sold, used the cash to cover the one year gap between my retirement, and claiming maximum social security at age 70. I miss my Hemi GTX, but every time I enter the automatic deposit in the check book it turns me on as much as opening the secondaries on that beast did a few years ago.

The second one. The Dealer Demonstrator. I test drove this '69 GTX, the family car of the local Plymouth dealer, in 1970, one week before my 17th birthday. Tried to buy for the next 13 years, dealer wouldn't sell it to me. Bought Baby Blue instead, the last time he turned me down, in '83...

First one - Baby Blue. Purchased in 1983, sold in 1991, bought her back in 2013. Shown as purchased in 1983, and later, with my friend Bob, who sold her to me the first time. When I sold the car, I put his contact info with the paperwork, knowing he was in his forever home, while I was still...

Welcome from Pennsylvania. I located two GTXs from my youth through word of mouth with other hobbyists. Both cars were off the radar for over 20 years.

    The Roach

Except for my dad's slant six Valiant. He also ran black wall tires, but splurged on 14 inch rims.

    local old timer

Friends of my parents had a '61 Buick Electra they got as a hand me down from the wife's rich family. That car still rode silently, without a trace of a squeak or rattle, when it nine years old.
