1972 to 1976 H/D crankshafts aka truck cranks (Jensen 440 cars UK)
They have wider thrust flanges and also a large mass of metal at the back journal.
The large lump can be massaged down to allow for neutral balance with six-pack rods.
That coupled with a 800gram rod lightening will allow for...
Some very valid points here Guys!
I'm happy that the heavy rod, heavy piston works fine for street applications.
I wouldn't put a 2355 onto an LY rod myself.
The best combo I have found is six-pack rod lightened to 840 grams and a Hyper KB piston.
They rev to the moon and back and never broke...
Sorry BSB67,
I am building three six-pack 440 engines at the moment.
Two are factory stock with Speed-pro (Indian forged press fit)
The third one is with Pro Tru (fully floating) and that's why I got mixed up.
I have tracked down a set of six-pack rods that are already bushed in the UK.
I...
Spun liners are good quality iron,
Block sleeves are almost all mixed up metal.
The more the merrier in my book.
TOP HAT sleeves are even better, no coolant leeks
Everyone knows that leeks are full of iron...:thankyou:
Proper drag racers do EIGHT sleeves!
My ex 69 Six-pack Superbee block had all eight done and it ran down to mid NINES.
After twenty years of hardcore drag racing it went back to the six-pack BEE!
Its $300 for one and it decreases the more you have done. ($1000 for all 8)
Wow I sure miss that...
Well done Curious Yellow guy!
You are the first person to mention that the Speed pro piston does not have pin retainer clip grooves!
In my old age, I mixed up my Pro-Tru with my Speed-Pro how foolish of me...:wtf:
It took four pages before someone actually noticed my schoolboy error...:thankyou:
There is an assumption that I do not know anything about rods and crankshafts?
I have worked in a specialist V8 machine shop for 25 years!
I can bore blocks, deck blocks, regrind crankshafts and balance them as well.
Rod prep has been my go to subject for 25 years.
All I asked for was thoughts...
Hello PsyOps,
At last in 2025 a sensible question.
Factory slugs are cast six-pack pistons.
The new replacements are Indian Speed Pro, forged.
How good they are is yet to be discovered?
They are no heavier than the factory High compression cast piston.
I could lighten them but reciprocating...
I suppose I am 'living in the past' with my GTX and its numbers matching engine.
I know the sixpack set up was a fine example of Mopar engineering (at that time).
Never broke a rod in forty years of drag racing.
Used everything from LY to BME aluminium.
We use what parts we want too and until...
Both rods in the picture are Hemi rods!
The front one is a longer hemi rod.
The one attached to the piston is also a Hemi rod, special made at 440/426 length for Weslake Engineering in 1969.
Both have factory 7/16 rod bolts and are the same apart from one is .100 shorter for a wedge engine.
I...
Talking of rods and bolts and all things 426 engine.
How's about a hemi rod, good or bad?
(The six-pack rod is almost identical to the hemi rod except for the bolts.)
So Weslake Engineering got Mother Mopar to make some hemi/440 length rods in 1969.
The front rod is outta my 426 hemi.(6.860)...
Some very good points there Guys.
A number matching 1971 GTX is what I have and it will stay 'as is'.:luvplace:
If I am going to run into the 10's with my 512ci engine then its going to be a stripped out race-car then?
Where is the cut-off between a number matching street-stripper and a drag...
6500rpm all day long with factory rods...
Factory is factory, once you change the rods then you start changing everything.
Pistons, crankshaft, camshaft, solid lifters, heads, it is endless.
Self imposed factory is factory apart from Indian sixpack forged pistons.
Back in 1971 they was running...
I think you are missing the point with some of the replies Guys!
Its a 1971 HP engine with six-pack rods from the factory.
I will be running in a Superstock class and it will be as Mother Mopar made it in 1971.
We have run six-pack rods down to 10.20 in a street legal B-body so we know they is...
Scat 440 rod with the 1.094 bushing is $649.
I guess that's about the cheapest old style non .990 rod?
Could not see a weight for them on the Ebay advert.
I get my six-pack rods down to 850 grams (600g BE and 250g SE).
Had a set in my 500 cube hemi and they got smashed to pieces after a...
Great replies guys!
Yes its a 1971 440 GTX (matching numbers) engine which will be as original as possible.
How fast can you go with a six-pack rod?
We ran them down to 10.20 without fully lightening them and just honed out for full floating pin.
They didn't scuff the pins and the only failure...
Merry Christmas to everyone on B-bods!
Anyone got or know of a set of 1.094 rod bushings for a sixpack rod set.
I know its not factory but will have the rods machined to receive them (of course)
Happy New Year to all in Moparland form PolyJohn UK
Merry Christmas to all on B-Bods.
Has anyone done rod bushings recently on sixpack rods?
If so where did you get your bushings from please.
Happy new Year from PolyJohn UK
Good point there J_C_C_62.
I worked at a specialist V8 machine shop for many years.
Its 'go to' engine was the Rover V8 modelled on the Buick engine.
But they seemed to just stop being fashionable about 15 years ago.
So the shop work declined to a trickle and went under, so sad.
Now its hard...
