I also noticed the position of your gas pedal to the heel pad was similar to mine. The way my ACC carpet was molded, there was no way in hell I could've positioned it so the gas pedal would've been in the "correct spot" at the top right corner of the heel pad. I would've had to shove the carpet...
I just had an epiphany reading this old topic...nearly everyone talks about needing to drop the steering wheel to R & R the instrument panel, when all you need to do is pull the steering wheel. D'oh! I wish I saw this topic weeks ago when I pulled my instrument panel, I wouldn't have had to...
I probably could've worded that post better. I meant that the ammeter would be non-functional. The voltmeter would be replacing it, and would be functional. :)
Yeah, that smoke is coming from a grass fire, not the side pipes...not to mention the fact the rear wheels are perfectly in focus and not motion-blurred...
Thanks for all the input, guys. My wiring is in better condition than I expected, my bulkhead connectors look very good (I have all this depicted in my project thread), I no longer have a stereo or alarm system, I'm using LEDs in the dash and console and may swap in some more, and my ammeter...
Thanks guys, I forgot to mention I'll be installing a voltmeter to substitute from the ammeter, which will be non-functional. Fortunately my wiring is sound, bulkhead connectors are good, and I believe the only non-stock wiring was done by myself for an aftermarket stereo and the alarm system...
Since I have my instrument panel out and having read hours of threads on ammeter gauge bypasses, and seeing as my car's wiring is all fortunately intact and not full of scorchies and melties, I want to do what I can to reduce a future fire risk. I already have the battery terminal disconnect...
The purple wire in the third pic above was indeed a spliced-in wire for the long-gone alarm system. It wasn't even soldered in. Unwrapped the tape, removed the purple wire and re-wrapped with fresh electrical tape. I think I have all of the instrument panel wiring sussed out. Now I...
I don't know about the Vibe, but my '08 Pontiac Torrent GXP sure was fun to drive. 264 HP in a small SUV. Don't ask me if it was fun to work on, though...
Yeah, every 2 steps forward, you find at least one step back. I was putting the right half of my '70 Charger dash back together, decided to clean up the map light assembly, and the ground wire was a b!tch to disconnect. I got it disconnected but ended up disintegrating the on/off switch circuit...
I can live with that. I provided a new AMD rear valance and corner pieces to my body man. He filled in the seams. I bet either of us didn't know any better, but I don't give a damn either. I like the look, and Grendel is certainly no bondo bucket. :) The lack of seams probably reduces the risk...
I finally got one of my Procar Scat Sportsman seats installed today. All that work to fabricate a steel adapter bracket to fit the seats to the original seat tracks was worth it. I can't install the driver side seat until I finish the instrument panel and wiring.
Here it is slid all the way...
