I know it's not stock...that being said, is there anyone that has made the switch to a pistol grip shifter? Thinking that'd be a nice change in my 69 bench seat 4spd...I loved the one I had in my 'Cuda. just wondering if there are adapters needed.
the engine in my car lasted about 4 mos, then I was leaking oil like a siv, thought it was the rear main seal, as it was not running poorly at all.
turned out I spun a bearing in the main cap...fast forward: got a 400 block, re-installed the internals from the 383 to the 400, except replaced...
Here's what i had:
3:91 rear (741)
509 purple cam
eddy torker II manifold
3500 stall
holley 750dp
383
ported 906 heads
1 3/4 headers to 3 inch pipes
Motor spun bearing in main cap...
So i found a 400 block and swapped internals over
replaced 509 cam w/ slightly higher than...
As my motor is being rebuilt, i am wondering if i have to use special oil for the break in period? I was using the Brad Penn 10w40. prior to the tear down...
while my motor is out...i am going to swap out the 3500 stall converter in favor of a more streetable one.
Can anyone recommend a specific maker over another?

So my car is set up for the track..and apparently the wrong cam (509 purple). I looked up the specs, and it is in line with the 391 rear and 3500 stall, and holley 750 no choke dbl pumper. But I have no low end torque.. And want a more street friendly car. The timing is way off as well.

I have a 71 Satellite with a 383ci, 727w/ 3500 stall converter, 509 cam, torker2 intake w/ 750 holley carb, H-pipe w/ flowmasters, 83/4 posi -391gears
It has a vacuum advance on the distributor, but the timing is off, and the car is running real rich.. and a slug in 1st gear (timing)
