My personal experience; the front went in much easier than the rear. I had new front glass and gasket - and old back glass and new gasket. Your mileage may vary.

Don’t blame you there one bit. I’m the same way. Happy you found the issue before spending bunch of money for port work. Maybe this will cost you less in the long run. Get new heads that are pressure checked, ported, valve job, guide fit, and you may pick up the power you’re looking for.

Just remember the spring pads not right for an A body and the axles are not same as 65 and up.
