Definitely some rust throughout, not extensive. Floor and trunk in good condition, currently bare inside and it's solid.
Brakes were just done last year and it ran enough to go up and down the street once, I'm sure not safely though.

I do not know the original torque. I'm guessing around 250 lbs though by the effort my impact wrench needed to remove it. I'm almost certain I put the shim in wrong. It is about the only thing possible. I have replace quite a few of these before but never had this issue before. Thanks for the reply.
anything you want is available, you can make the tube shorter if you need, trim and run a die on , add a few threads ? If you'd leave it 1/2" it would work just fine as well ! Main concern is to know what went wrong in the first place
