Pulled the carb and it was getting fuel. Brand new fuel pump with a brand new fuel pump push rod. Pressure is fine. My uncle has another carb I can borrow if it does turn out the Holley isn't in working order for some reason. Went through it fairly thoroughly though and all looked well with...
It was a dry test but not registering even 30psi is a bad sign. Re-tested the #3 cylinder after oiling it and that got me up to 70psi. #5 still didn't get over 30psi after oiling.
Never tried pouring oil in the carb. Usually have to do some jury-rigged contraption to squirt directly in the...
Diagnosis confirmed. No compression.
#3 and #5 had less than 30lbs. Didn't even go further. Motor is getting yanked. Rats.
It was going to get pulled anyway to work on the engine compartment so it isn't a huge deal.

"Thanks" given all around. Appreciate all the...
My teenage blunders were more in line with, say.. leaving the coil wire off and wondering why in the world it wouldn't start.. Then after a half hour of cussing, finally figuring out my stupidity.
No, checked my firing order, wires and distributor quite a few times now. Its all adding up...
I've done all of this except a proper compression test simply because I didn't have a compression gauge handy. And to be honest, I have no idea the history of this motor. Its a '61 block with '70 heads on it so if I had a guess, I would think its been overhauled at some point. Here's a little...
I did end up checking each wire with a spare plug grounded out to check for spark. All good. I forgot to mention too that of course I put new plugs in it. I first tried to start it with the old distributor and recent bought a brand new EI kit for it. So the ignition system is brand new...
The cam seems to be moving just fine. I pulled the valve covers to initially check the rockers, push rods, valves, etc when first making sure the motor wasn't seized up.
Only thing I can think of is compression. But even then I've seen motors with horrible compression in multiple cylinders...
Have a 383 that was supposed to run but has been sitting for years. Well I'm in the process of finding out if that's the case and am running into some strangeness I've never seen before. Flat out can't get it to fire.. at all. Tested everything I can think of.. New distributor, getting spark...
It's still on the car so hard to get a good view of it. Read that 66-69 K-members had the sway bar mounts in the front as mine does so that might narrow it down.
What makes me really think this is from another car is the lugs are not reversed like they should be on the drivers side. That...
Couldn't find an ID coin anywhere. Just across from the stamping that I pictured, I did see a "17". Slightly spaced apart. Not sure what that could mean.
Figured I would throw this up here and see what you guys think.
My new toy is turning out to be a Frankenstein, to be honest, and I'm pretty sure the K-Member is from another car. I found a stamp that says "LMK 11-1". Googled it and can't find anything. Here's a pic. Any help would be awesome.
Thanks everyone for the help! Love this site. My first reaction was "how in the h*ll did it shear off 1/4" of material!?" Make sense now. The previous owner had a jury rigged electric fuel pump on this thing and now I know why.
Thanks again! New rod is on its way.

This is a new project so I'm just learning all the ins and outs of this old motor. Its been sitting for 10 years and on the first oil change I didn't notice anything amiss (metal material). So that would make sense that it was a gradual wear.
To be honest, it looks worn. But since so much material is missing... could it wear 1/4"?? Seems like a lot. I'll upload some pics. It measures out to just under 3" so just over 1/4" of the rod is gone.
Quick question for a experienced BB engine wiz. Have a broken fuel pump push rod on my 383. Looks like about 1/4" sheared off the cam side. I pulled it and the 1/4" piece is MIA. Where is its likely resting place? I noticed it was broken because it wasn't engaging the fuel pump so the...
Well then, good to know. Thanks.

Yeah I know. When I first started looking into the castings and saw the the '60 stamp, I was a little shocked. My Uncle happened to be over at the time and his response was "I didn't even know they made 383s in 1960".
Was hoping for stock heads but in true Frankenstein fashion, these are 906 heads (2.08/1.74) from a 68-70 383/440. Maybe a tell that it was rebuilt at some point. Casting on the drivers side head under the valve cover reads 28439062 and 10127.
383 "hp"?
Hey guys. Wonder if anyone could help me with a quick question that I can't seem to get answered by internet searching my brains out.
Just got a new toy (project) in the garage and its a bit of a Frankenstein. Its a '68 Charger that was originally a 318/auto that was...
