Has any one had issue with the OEM valve covers leaking on the 440Sourceheads? I've tried a few different fixes with no luck. I saw a post in the past about this but can not recall all the details.
Heads up! Looked at the new products listed on the 440source website and bought the (new to me) thicker .083"
6 quart oil pan =7quarts with filter. Anyone else buy one? Or is this oil pan old news ?
The Fel-Pro 1009 fits the bore okay at 4.350, but just barely clears the combustion chamber without overhang with my 440Sourceheads. The 8519 are sized for a larger 4.505 bore and are half the price of the 1009.
I did the 440source on my 400, basically same block as your 383. Everything fits and bolts up like original but better flow and chamber shape as well as saving a bunch of weight. They are called stealth heads cause if you paint them the look original. You also get the hardened valve seats.
I ran a 543 stroker in my Challenger. It had an Edelbrock Performer RPM aluminum intake port matched to my heads. I ran 440Source aluminum heads. Good torque, made peak HP I think at 5600 RPM and made 615 HP / 651 ft/lbs of torque on the dyno. A good "grunt" motor!
Hi guys I've decided to spend a bit of money on this dust collector I have in the shed (69 Coronet-440 6 pack).
So I'm starting with the engine as it needs a full rebuild and I like either 440source or Hughes stroker kits. I'm leaning more towards 440source due to a lot of positive feedback...
...went south with the runner for a while. First rad fan took out the radiator. Then cracked head on driver's side. Put on a set of 440sourceheads. Then a partiality filter blew out. Now trying to dial the motor back in with the new 650 Holley brawler four-barrel single pumper. Back on the...
Unless you need to use the original iron heads, I would just get some aluminum heads, Maybe the 440Source Stealth? They have the straight stock like spark plug locations.
I don't know how manifolds fit with the Edelbrock angled plug RPM heads?
With the Iron heads, the bowl area above the...
Stay away from Hughes. Their better days are behind them.
If you want to retain a more stock looking head upgrade go with the 440Sourceheads. If you want a better flowing head Edelbrock Performer RPM would be my choice.
You'll have to be careful on a 383 with the smaller bore size using some...
Was given an Engine Works 4RTR-383 distributor. (The copy of the MSD 8386 RRR ) Put it in my low deck stroker, set it to 30 total advance. On a 544/541 summit hydraulic roller cam with 440sourceheads. When I step on it I get a steady backfire out the exhaust.
What are your thoughts?
I was planning to put the 440 in but before I got to it, I found a 400/440 crank engine for less than 440source charges for the rotating assembly, which would fit under the hood with no issues. This was .040 over, 440source crank, icon pistons and an unknown cam, Performer RPM intake and stock...
Even the Moly rings are expensive now. Total Seal Moly rings from 440Source are $175, Summit Racing is almost the same price ($164) Hastings Moly rings are $148. This was looking at the 4.375" bore 1/6x1/6x3/16" rings.
For expensive, look at doing cylinder heads with Beryllium Copper valve...
Running NGK BKR5EIX-11 plugs in a 440 with 440sourceheads, hydraulic roller cam, Edelbrock performer RPM intake AVS2 carb and Mopar distributor and a FBO box and stock exhaust manifolds in a 4 speed car. Plugs out of the box are gapped at .040, run them like that or re gap to .035
I just got a set of the stealth heads from 440Source. Do the factory pushrods work with these heads. And will i need to open the pushrod bore as I have the 3/8 pushrods. It's a stock 440+6.
I have a 496" stroker in my '69 Coronet using the 383 block and a 440Source kit with lightened crank and their CNC ported heads. It's bolted up to a built 727 with a 3,000 stall converter and 3.54 gear. Believe me, it's all this old man can handle on the street.
