A bucket filled with oil? I had one stored in a shed and is now locked up. Of course we have very high humidity here in Florida. I'm wondering what specifically is locked up inside and if the unit can be saved.
Living in super rural farm country WI, all Y2K was for me and my friends as a young man was a source of jokes. Before memes were a thing, we had all the jokes about idiotic things the news said, and the people in the newspapers that were prepping.
Of particular amusement was the local guy that...
Guys,
What thread size is used on the castle nuts that hold the center link to the rest of the assembly?
I took mine off to drop the center link to get my oil pan off.
The PO beat these and they look like crap so I'd like to replace them.
I'd like to get some stainless ones from McMaster Carr...
That's what I use on my 65, the sames as a 05, 5.7 Chrysler 300, Pennzoil Platinum 5/20W and only Wix filter, I have used Castrol. I do my 65 every 2000 miles. My Durango goes to the dealer only. I don't drive it enough to worry about what it costs. Oil change and tire rotate every 3000 miles...
The seller said it's rebuilt .....
At this point I would run a compression test on it just to see what you have.
I know we're talking oil pressure but let's check and see if you have compression.
If it shows up low, you know what needs to happen.
Julys question is what brand tires are on my daily driver and what is the pressure in the front passenger tire? What brand oil do I have in my daily driver and what size air filter does it have. @eldubb440 :poke:
But honestly how many of us drive these cars when it's below 40 degrees? And those same looser clearances in a HP engine that lead to lower oil pressure means thicker oil isn't restricted by tight clearances...
This is a tough one. I still don't know what to do next except to prime it with an electric drill. It has a new oil pump. It's full of oil. The psi should go to 70 real fast. If it doesn't, how does it "feel"? Does it feel like it's really pulling hard and pumping a lot of oil and a galley plug...
This is a OEM 1970 to 72 Twist On Oil Filler Cap. It is original,
not a china knockoff, and is in decent condition, just needs a
cleanup and repaint. I can no longer remember for sure what engine
this came off of, but I believe it will work on small and big blocks.
$15.00. Local pickup, or...
I'd change the oil (10-40) pull the spark plugs and squirt some Marvel Mystery in the cylinders, let it set for a few beers then turn it over with the plugs out. This will also help pre-lube the engine. Screw in some fresh plugs and see what happens, zinc additive would be my recommendation as...
The sending units shown in that picture are aftermarket, and are as listed for an oil indicator light or oil pressure gauge.
The oil gauge sender is a variable resistor that changes resistance between ~9 ohms and ~72 ohms depending on the applied pressure. The oil light sender is a pressure...
This is interesting about the 1009 gasket because the Trickflow Aluminum head instructions list 1009 gaskets to use in the instructions. They test many engines for their 600 plus top end kit horsepower engine package.
I have Trickflow aluminum heads. I still have to start my engine next spring...
Wow, this is much less pressure than when you started this thread. I assume the mechanical gauge you put in is saying the same? Something isn't making sense here. When one of these engines has low hot oil pressure at idle it should come up real fast with rpm's. Especially with a HV pump...
So I have a couple of comments to add:
As many have said, your valve springs are the limiting factor here. They are probably weak and not doing their job any more. BUT, stronger springs also come with more pressure on the cam. With a well broken in cam and zinc in your oil, you'll be OK. But...
Rod bearing clearance is not what determines the oil. Use the oil that makes you happy with your oil pressure.
That said, you have about the worst piston/deck height variation that I’ve seen. Not sure why any decent machine shop wouldn’t make that better. Probably doesn’t matter either.
Well remember I had the float stick ,I checked on the oil didn't think it was hurt but was wrong , what a stupid thing. Oh well I will check it out this week and see what I need to do.
