600 threads here on "what oil to use".. Use the search function and read for the day... or week!
I've always just used dino 10W30 in my well varnished 383, rebuilt in 1978 for $300! But somewhere I got convinced to start spending my hard earned coin on Penngrade.
You asked about oil level. And im pretty sure dadabee's response was to that. And since we have all types of folks on here, you did mean oil pressure level when you asked? Because that's what that guage indicates, not the level of oil in the engine. And oil pressure is influenced by engine...
The Hemi block has a 1/2" pickup tube provision. Not the pump itself. I would put a mechanical gauge on the second oil pressure port at the back of the block, and see what pressure the pump is actually providing.
I have just completed putting together a brand new a/c system on a '70 charger, 383 engine. every component is identical to the original parts except for the compressor which is a Sanden 5DSH. The compressor came with 4.5 ounces and the instructions stated "that it was sufficient for the whole...
Hum....you're right. So I had no real test. But I swore I had air up top??
Well I have a proper tester coming tomorrow as I didn't have proper fittings for my air system. I'll give it another go from the sender this time...
Yesterday I swapped out the 741 open 8 3/4 for a brand new center section with 3.55 gears and an Eaton Trutrac from Quick Performance. Everything went smooth and I was breaking it in according to their instructions by driving for 15 minutes and then letting it sit for 30-45 mins. After the 3rd...
I’m not sure what your circled hole is, but there are two threaded plugs in the areas you describe (right/left) that plugged the back of the lifter galleys. (They can leak, but rarely). There’s also the rear main seal you mentioned (common oil leaking problem) and the front of the transmission...
Since we're reaching into the dog days of Summer with big block cars that are hot under the collars, Who on here has had REAL world experience with a favored water wetter solution?
There are so many products out there that promise running cool in the heat of the night, but which ones are the...
Bob,
It is an industry 'standard'. Same as quoted oil viscosity numbers...& many other things. Do people get a lab check of the oil viscosity before using the oil??
If what you are suggesting is correct, EVERY t'stat would need to be temperature tested BEFORE using it....would be a...
I had a 318 short block built for me and I purchased a Melling M-72 oil pump separately. When going to install the mounting neck will not fit and I don’t want to force it. I check with my junker short block and it fit. The new rear cap is stamped 5-31 old (which fits) is stamped 1-31 can someone...
...what you have is lifters that bleed more oil in general, coupled with less time to replenish the oil into the lifters pressure chamber, and whatoil is being put back in has air in it.
The lifter can’t collapse as far(less lift and duration are lost) if the plunger is closer to the bottom...
