No, mine did not come with that info on the label, however, I finally dug deep in the Sanden site to find they are only concerned with the the % of pag oil to the volume of refrigerant. The volume of the entire system is not a concern until you get to very long hoses being used in system.They...
Don't particularly remember the GM stuff, but go backwards another 10 years and "Bardahl" oil additive was popular. Still around today from what I see...
Ran across this chart on Driven's website for oil viscosity for different bearing clearances and oil temp. I have no idea what my oil temp is, but using the middle of the road column, at .0035 main bearing clearance I should probably be running 15w-50 or 20w-50.
Ok, fair enough. but with all the issues over the past years, there should be somewhat of a consensus on what actually fixes the issue. So, I guess my question is to everyone is.. Who has the most miles on what setup, AFTER pushrod failure, assuming with the right oil?
How screwed am I? Should I pull the engine right away or just the head? I am certain I caught this right away, it couldn't have run more than 45 seconds with coolant in the oil but that's long enough for it to circulate and get in all my nice new bearings. Experience only here please is a flush...
The engine builder is long lost. Best I can do is eyeball the spring once I get the pump removed. Any tips on what I should be looking for to get some more info on my situation? Or maybe just buy a certain new spring now and install it regardless? The manual is sparse on oil pump removal stuff...
Low oil pressure at idle means oil is internally leaking faster than with factory clearance. Where? More than likely lifter bores. Possibly some extra bearing clearance as well. Can you do anything about the lifter bore short of bushing them. Or reaming for a larger lifter? No. Obviously the cam...
I remember using those for my 1939 Buick coupe when I was in High School. I forget what it cost; 25 or 50 cents per quart of bulk oil? 1963-1964.
I don't think that old motor had an oil filter; never had to actually change the oil, just keep adding fresh!
I haven't read every word posted above but what kind of a gauge are you measuring the pressure with? Also, how many miles are on it? Low oil pressure, hot, at idle, is usually worn bearings.
Nice looking RR,
Myself I think it is a ticking time bomb.
Since I'm only 1 state away I will take it off your hands to help you out.
What weight of oil is in it ?
Most all these 70s V8s are getting a little loose even after a standard ring and bearing rebuild.
The pump and mabey a little...
Used motor oil has lead and other contaminates, further the oil hardly evaporates, and in any rain/snow event a portion leaches into the soil and eventually the ground water over time. IMO its equal to pouring used motor oil on the ground, just over much longer period of time, disregarding the...
This is a OEM 1970 to 72 Twist On Oil Filler Cap. It is original,
not a china knockoff, and is in decent condition, just needs a
cleanup and repaint. I can no longer remember for sure what engine
this came off of, but I believe it will work on small and big blocks.
$15.00. Local pickup, or...
