I'm sure the TKO has multiple shifter positions - look on internet or ring Tremec. Changing location of the shifter is fairly straightforward on the TKX - I imagine the TKO is similar. You should be able to get it close to or the same as the factory location. I have a TKX in mine.

I cut a washer to make 2 small steel blocks and JB Welded them under the arm to limit the travel. Thinner or thicker washers to vary the amount of allowable advance.

Those first 2 had no driver by the looks. Luckily for the 2nd one especially, they'd likely be killed. I've never understood that whole scene. Trash.
