It should be ok. They can be removed by having bronze guides installed. The cut all that old guide out usually and press in the new bronze guides. How loose are the valves in the guides? A new set of trick flows or 440 source heads would solve the problem permanently.

Yes, use marvel mystery oil, trans fluid, etc, to let sit in the cylinders and dissolve the rust. I have used a small sledge and a chisel to get the pistons out, break them up. If it is a std bore, you can go up to .060 or so to clean up the bores. jmho.
