Check for intake leaks. Carb base, manifold gaskets, vacuum hoses. Depending how old and brittle they are...cold could shrink them enough to leak. Think cold header gaskets...tic (leak) when cold, silent (sealed) when warmed up.

Or if you have a bench grinder with a wire wheel attachment.... Or roloc discs...
