When did they stop? I did one a year or two ago. I had the title, it had just been incorrectly assigned and it required a notarized signature from a dead guy to “fix” it. Was much simpler to register it in Vermont.

Any car can become a "driver". It's up to the owner. Start with a showcar if you like, drive it around, eventually it will become a nice "driver". Even unrestored original cars. They all started out like that, treat them as you want, it's your car and your life. You only get one shot at this.

For piece of mind just install the gear on the cam, add a glob of puddy or grease on the end and install it. See how much clearance you have.
