I have just removed my Cranes and they are badly scored inside the actual lifter.
The shafts were fine and all the damaged is to the lifter bore.
I have seen on my small block adjustables that the shafts are banana grooved, no wear!
I will bronze bush my damaged cranes and banana groove my...
If you have wear on the NON oil hole side then the shaft was fitted upside down at some time in its life.
You will have to remove the rockers to see how much wear is in the bores?
Certainly not trashed, just normal wear and tear.
hello Folks,
Anyone running a 'new style' two wire electronic Dizzy.
Just bought one to run on our engine 'run-in stand'.
No wiring diagram, just red to coil and black to ground the seller said.
Does this sound OK?
Best wishes from Poly John.
Never mock the afflicted it will come back to haunt you!
Sods law says '' if it can go wrong, it will do''.
There was a time we trusted the Moparts ''we bought'' and then it all went pear shaped!
Think it was the 90's after that, all the NOS stuff was gone...
That's exactly what we did PRheads, but they don't give a Centreline number on the cam card,
The 106 is in the instruction manual (as an example) which we copied many times.
They give instructions for the centreline method but don't actually print it?
Then only give bogus @50 numbers for every...
We stopped using Purples as they was the worst offenders!
Followed by Comp cams, but in reality they all seem to fail, in da end...
Crower roller is my go to now as Lunati have now gone too... :praying:
Check and double check everything, otherwise you will get caught OUT!
Life is a tough learning curve for some and others never get a bad cam, crank, rod, bearing, rocker etc, etc, etc.:monkeyleft:
Very close Guys.
Compcams forgot to drill the oil hole for the rocker oiling!
It totalled the top end and the metal fragments went everywhere.
The whole engine was toast and we never saw it coming...
Comp cams said ''tough luck'' you should have checked the cam first.
So we sued the UK...
My favourite Mopar a 71 Runner!
A fellow UK Moparmate had a 72 340 4-speed too.
He ran that down the track on may occasions at around 14.00.
Its now an auto with a 408, so that's where you end up I guess?
I have a 71 GTX that I hope to run in Superstock UK this year.
What do I expect?
Same as...
Wow, I thought it would be Zero in the GOOD cam list!
Big-block small-bock, race and street I've had many...
Never on start up but after few months and sometimes years.
You always know cos the power drops off.
Going over to roller on everything now, but that's another minefield too.
Still get...
My mouse has gone into meltdown just like the valve train did!
On removing the valve covers we found a melted mass of Crane rockers.
OMG what have we done wrong to cause this?
After many hours of dis assembly we worked out what was the cause.
Any guesses folks before I reveal the answer...:drinks:
Back in the 90's, we used Sig Erson and Iskanderian camshafts.
Sometimes we also used Mopar Performance as well....
So we were stepping up to a proper Dragster and used the 440 engine out of my mates 70-GTX.
It ram mid elevens with ease and thought it would run a Ten in our new/old...
OK, this is what is wrong!
Compcams gives instruction example to find Intake centreline @106 in the manual (not cam-card)
That is what we did and it was fine, but not actually written the cam-card.
So we followed the @50 for intake and exhaust and both were a mile out!
Intake BTDC 28 @50...
So we tried to fit this cam into our 1969 440 to replace a 509 Mopar performance cam.
We spent out on a Cloyes rollerised 3 bolt chain set and...
On checking the cam timing at 50 thou lift it was nearly 30 degrees out!
So we re-set the chain with maximum advance and still over twenty degrees...
1972 to 1976 H/D crankshafts aka truck cranks (Jensen 440 cars UK)
They have wider thrust flanges and also a large mass of metal at the back journal.
The large lump can be massaged down to allow for neutral balance with six-pack rods.
That coupled with a 800gram rod lightening will allow for...
Some very valid points here Guys!
I'm happy that the heavy rod, heavy piston works fine for street applications.
I wouldn't put a 2355 onto an LY rod myself.
The best combo I have found is six-pack rod lightened to 840 grams and a Hyper KB piston.
They rev to the moon and back and never broke...
Sorry BSB67,
I am building three six-pack 440 engines at the moment.
Two are factory stock with Speed-pro (Indian forged press fit)
The third one is with Pro Tru (fully floating) and that's why I got mixed up.
I have tracked down a set of six-pack rods that are already bushed in the UK.
I...
Spun liners are good quality iron,
Block sleeves are almost all mixed up metal.
The more the merrier in my book.
TOP HAT sleeves are even better, no coolant leeks
Everyone knows that leeks are full of iron...:thankyou:
