I would see two options to work with $5k.
1. Buy some eddy performer heads, install 4.11 gears, and lighten the car with plastic racing buckets, empty the trunk, and anything else you can think off (heater, radio, back seat, etc. etc.). It's not optimal to live with the low compression pistons...
Brand Racing Engines has a good video on pinning the cam bearings in an LS platform engine. I am not familiar but supposedly the cam bearings are already prone to movement in those. Maybe be safe and replace it or at least try pinning it like this.
Good attitude. Mine isn’t the nicest or fastest car around either. But if you’re going to put yourself out there you’re going to get all kinds of comments from the peanut gallery.
There are lots of different ways to enjoy this hobby. The best way is the YOU want to do it.
I’m starting to...
I get comments like this quite often and I usually don’t address them or just don’t pay attention to them. As Bob stated, it’s his opinion and he’s ok to think whatever he wants. If I had to say something about it however I would say it’s simply due to the high price of entry in mopars that...
LOL. Exactly. I wouldn't call it wimping out - it's just coming to the realization that there is a better method.
Before cutting the input shaft I showed in my earlier post, I tried to drill out the crank register but threw in the towel after about 20 min. of getting nowhere and destroying a...
This is akin to admitting that I banged a fat chick with a big hairy wart, but yes I bought one and put it in a 742 case with 3:55's, it seems to be working fine after 1100 miles, moderate driving with occasional burnout, 440/727.
Still looking for an OEM clutch type suregrip to build a 3:23...
If someone could post a video of hand drilling out a crank at home ,I'd enjoy watching it. I wimped out and chopped the 1/2" off.
Can always buy a new input shaft.
4:56's go down the freeway just fine, as long as the engine is built properly and the driver ain't spoiled by having driven cars with overdrive their whole life...
I personally drove a 440-6 Challenger with 4:10's and 295/50-15 tires round trip to San Diego & back, round trip over 1000...
Yes, the prices are ridiculous. When my son wanted a tank, I found it was less expensive to buy a tank that was already filled on Amazon and delivered was less expensive than filling a bottle.
1968 Charger with 318 Automatic. 2nd Owner, and have build sheet. Rust on rear quarters and passenger floor pan. Outer rear fender wells have rust and need replaced. I have 1 fender skin for passenger side and passenger floorpan that go with the car. All trim and interior is present; less...
If the crank is forged, it is hardened and is a BITCH to drill out. You need a specialized drill bit or you will be there for a month. Cut the input shaft as needed, chamfer the end and move on.
I've cut at least 1/2" off an input shaft and drove the trans thousands of miles without issue. The...
i worked for years [ do to money and family ] to make this car a threat to anyone that lined up against me no juice or anything other than mopar parts and my knowledge and the mopar chassis and engine books
