Well my buddy came over to help me get the engine started he was the starter man, while I was giving it a squirt of fuel ,started was going well, 180 temp. Started at 70 psi oilpressure, then dropped to 62psi,letting it run at 2k for break-in, but 18 minutes in just stopped, nonoise, no smoke...
When I first bought the car I was hunting down a nooilpressure problem. I checked the pump (seemed fine) and then drained the oil and it came out slow. So I dropped the pan and found this wrapped around the pick up tube.
Adding shims lowers the pressure. Removing them increases it.
If the steering functions fine, the angle shouldn't be an issue. You could put spacers behind the mounting points of the box to square it up. Many others have done that very thing.
There are millions of factory engineered vehicles with roller lifters.
The big block Mopar was never fitted with them. ALL factory LA and Magnum series roller engines had taller lifter bosses that supported the lifters better. They had improved oiling to accommodate the longer/taller lifter...
My situation is I never felt much pressure when I primed the pump. Normally there is a significant amount of resistance when you prime. I have always used 1/2 drive drills because of the load on the drill while priming the oil system.
The drill just kept going with some but not a lot of...
I would like to know the actual failure rate of flat tappet camshafts if that could actually be compiled.
I know of several car guys that have never lost a cam. Most of them have not built many engines and theirs have mostly been fairly mild engines.
I lost 2 Comp Cams in a row in 2006. This...
The next week, I installed a new 100 psi. oil-filled mechanical gauge. I swapped the Fram filter for a new Wix filter, half filled with oil. With my wife again turning the engine over with the starter, I spun the oil pump with my drill motor. The oilpressure pumped right up to 75 psi. and...
The plot thickens. After cleaning off the rh head, I backed the hold down hardware off and rotated the shaft. NO CHANGE! From my research, having the 15* offset is correct. These shafts along, with the double holes, there is no offset. I don't see anything ugly up on the head, like metal...
Did you perhaps Connect to "Batt+" FROM the Alternator along the way? Instead of connecting to fuse block 12V "Hot in Run" circuit? If so, that's gonna send AMPS over Volts, & Will cook a wire.
Let me try to put a finer point on it.
I assume you know what valve float is, is that correct? It is simply when the force of the valve train (mass x acceleration) is greater than the force of the valve spring. Essentially, the lifter loses contact with the cam lobe around max lift and then...
Replaced oil sender on my winter beater 95 Wrangler. The guage pegged on high, no strange noises besides the normal strange noises. It literally took longer to go get a new sender than actually replacing it. 30 minutes to go to local Napa, <5 minutes to change it. Oilpressure on guage back to...
Yup
I’ll add that I’d have no reservations about running a HV pump in KD’s combo.
If the thicker oil didn’t get me where I wanted to be, I’d slap a HV pump right on there.
Under 40psi in a performance build BBM at cruise is lower than I’d like to see.
As for cold start oilpressure…….. on a...
I'll have to go back and look at my notes or even through this thread.
I did pull the spring from the last oil pump I had. Posts 798, 831 and 833 I mentioned this.
The pressure I am getting now matches what I had back after I swapped in the purple spring. It has not dropped. THIS is the...
Yeah that wasn’t a good picture, I was tired and just quickly snapped one. I drive this car pretty regularly with no issues, it’s been as far as Lubbock, 230 miles, I thought hay 90 miles isn’t a big deal for it.
There’s always that 1 trip. I think the distributor o ring messed up, and...
Took the 63 Polara to a show 70 miles away. Checked oil before we left as I always do and it was fine.
Car ran fine on the way there. On the way home my wife said she thought she smelled oil burning at a
traffic light. I figured it was another car in front of me. Noticed slight vibration...
Wouldn't the appropriate questions to ask about oil filters are: Micron rating (particle size filtered); maximum flow rating in terms of gallons/minute or liters/minute or some quantifiable unit of measurement; pressure drop (pressure) or flow loss (pressure) at maximum flow; canister burst...
...the intake roller #2 on the passinger side had pushrod jump out of lifter and lifter was 1/2 way out of the bore so when cold and nooilpressure it slipped down in place. So when engine warmed up lifter pushed out of hole by cam shaft and oilpressure did the rest pushed it up more and oil...
There's recommendations of heavier oil, big pumps, and I wouldn't do any of that. 10w30 " might" be a little light on a worn engine but not a deal breaker. I have a stock 440 with a stock pump with red spring, stock bearings and clearances, stock valve train and all. I've done 10w30, straight...
