Next time you go for a drive, take an old spark plug with you. When the problem occurs, remove a plug lead & hook up the lead to the old plug & lay it on the engine. Crank to see if get spark...
It wants lots of idle timing? Why doesn't that surprise me...
Being motor home, it is probably a low comp engine....& they need more timing.
Bad move going to the higher resistance coil. If the module is getting hot, use a larger heat sink.
There also looks like mud in the front air vent. The MP bulletins recommended [ for WOT ] the sec blades at 88* for a single plane intake & 81* for a dual plane. It is not always about total airflow, but distribution also...
Congrats on using a great carb.
Renton, you nasty little man. You think you are so smart that you know more than everybody else....hence the vile comments. You the smart one, get a dictionary, & look up the definition of plagiarising. It means to present somebody else's work as your own. I have never done that & never will...
Blue 66 [ & others interested in learning ].
In the last few days, Nicks Garage You Tube, dyno tested a 455 Buick. At around the 18 min 30 sec mark, engine idling, he connects the vac adv to manifold vacuum. You can hear the engine run smoother & rpm increases by about 200 rpm. He spends the...
So Bob,
If the publication is unknown, how do you know it is copyrighted??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
I supply information from various sources that back up/support my statements; sometimes I do mention names. The...
The piston to bore clearance depends on the alum grade the piston is made of.....& the 'cam' ground into the piston. The piston is NOT round at room temp. The #2032 alum used today is very similar if not the same as the older TRW forged piston alum [ #VMS 75 from memory ]. These could be fitted...
Post #30 is exactly the wrong way to hook up Man Vac Adv [ MVA ]. It is also the reason for comments such as ' MVA didn't work for me'. Etc.
MVA operates at IDLE. You FIRST have to determine how much timing THIS engine wants for best idle. This is INCREDIBLY easy to do....
Simply set initial...
What are the cam specs?
Idle rpm in gear?
Idle quality: smooth or rough?
With VA hooked up... whacking the throttle & getting a hesitation...can certainly be caused by the VA unit dropping out & reducing timing.
I think it is a bad idea putting rubber tube inside the engine. It is subjected to a lot of heat & oil, & both are likely to soften it & defeat the original purpose.
Doug,
If the pump drive was moved upwards during operation, I doubt Chry would have relied on a narrow plastic collar on the dist shaft to limit upward thrust. The direction of thrust can be controlled by:
- which side of the cam [ left or rt ] the helix is
- which way the helix is ground: CW...
Bob,
I understand how a Hall Affect sensor works. Do you?
The broad nose on the points cam is not going to give accurate timing, such as a properly designed interrupter wheel with sharp, defined edges would give.
Yes, when running the lifter bleeds it down. Oil is hot, thinner, leakage past the inner piston is easier....& at max valve lift, max spring force is being applied to the lifter piston. If the spring tension is 300 lb at max lift, with 1.5 rockers 450 lb is being applied to the piston.
Kellyville, NSW?
If the intake is a dual plane, I would use a two or four hole spacer.
If single plane, use an open spacer.
Idea is to preserve the intentions of the manifold maker.
Charlie,
Re-read post #8. If this engine has been running, some, maybe all, of the lifters will be pumped up. That is why the spring starts to compress. A lot has to do with the internal clearances of the individual lifter as to whether it will collapse or not. A small amount of debris, not...
Could be the thrust brg [ #3 mains ] is worn. If it wears, it is usually the rear, such that the crank [ & the TC ] move forward & the ring gear hits the starter gear. Lever backwards & forwards on the crank & look for movement. Should be 0.002-007" from memory. For this to be a problem, you...
