Waking up an old thread. Replaced intake gasket and it made no difference, then noticed external oil leak on drivers side, replaced valve cover gasket which had actually split apart (new gasket). Stayed dry for a day.
Oil is on drivers side only, comes down on top of starter, around...
Honestly no I am not sure. I would think if oil was being pulled past intake valve on #6 cylinder that was fouled that I would see oil on the back side of the valve but I don't see anything wet with oil there on any cylinders.
Two quarts of oil went somewhere and underside of engine is dry. Also...
A closer look shows that I don't seem to be getting enough clamping force acoss the lower part of each intake port. Manifold bolts had been retorqued a couple times after installation and running some miles, and were not found to be loose at all.
This is a true max wedge intake, and when I first...
Superperformance intake gaskets appear to be the type you install dry as they are non stick on both sides. If that is true then how do you hold haskets in place while installing the intake?
Max wedge intakes are a pain since bolts go inside the intake, and there are no pins etc to keep gaskets...
Well compression test was good for that whole bank of cylinders. Could not see anything using the camera. Pulling the intake now. Not sure what I will find under there.
I used felpro 1218's most recently. I won't be able to work on my baby for a while, work interferes LOL. Will let you know what I find out will check compression, intake bolt tightness, try to scope it. Hope it is just a gasket
Ok so it is possible to suck oil and not smoke out the pipes. Can anyone recommend a better intake gasket set for 413 with max wedge intake (real not reproduction)?
No cracks in heads, they are repro max wedge heads and just had them fully done including checking for cracks etc. Reliable...
I can try, but I think I tried that before with the cross ram and could not get in there to see anything. Intake and gasket were all redone this spring when I had the wedge heads redone.
Would intake gasket affect compression? I am thinking if I check compression and that cylinder is lower then...
Yes it's my baby and it has never sat outside, but local shops don't have room to keep anything inside. Might have to pull it myself and take the motor somewhere.
As for pulling plug wires just figured if I found one or more that made no difference those would be the cylinders to look closer at.
OK so I topped off the oil, made sure pressure was good and steady, tried to take it down the road. Barely driveable, feels real shaky and like I might have lost one or more cylinders, which might explain where all the oil went. I guess we were not paying attention or would have seen smoke out...
I have been taking it to shows every Saturday from 30 to 80 miles away and no issues with oil consumption. Then suddenly one trip I lost 2 quarts somewhere. I don't have an answer for no signs of fresh oil under the car. The only thing I can think of is that somehow the dipstick was showing oil...
I have driven it about 1500 miles since I got it and it has used almost no oil at all.
I had checked the oil just before we left that day and it was fine.
Really strange to have a sudden loss of two quarts. Also the oil was clean when we left and dirty after it got low.
Honestly now I am afraid...
