    Edelbrock 1407

Took a few plugs out they all look the same, odd color could be from Techron added. Been in for 17 years time for new ones.

G haven’t checked it hooked up to vacuum can just with vacuum gauge to manifold that’s where I’m getting 14 in park 10 in drive

I put carb back together left weight over ball in pump well and put pump with stiffer spring/orange cup using Edelbrock 3/8 spacer under carb. Set primary blade with .020 t slot showing. I’m hoping I can get vacuum up with timing to allow use of vacuum advance from manifold and not have big drop...

Checked vacuum canister today, found it fully CW.

    Edelbrock 1407

Pulled distributor cap off and connected Mitivac to canister, plate starts moving at 6hg and stops advancing at 12, holds pressure fine. Not sure what this means in terms of vacuum advance. Carb is not back on yet so not sure on PCV. Hopefully weather holds out. Is dimension of accelerator pump...

YY1, yes agree, went through carb to clean, checked idle speed screw to check where it needs to be to get .020 exposed transfer slot, reset float height and drop, new pump assy going to start with yellow step up springs hopefully with vacuum from manifold it will increase vacuum . Car does not...

    Edelbrock 1407

G thank you for the info, 22* is vacuum disconnected, when connecting to manifold vac it increases to 32* but I neglected to check vacuum number. I really didn’t like the rpm drop from park to drive if I remember correctly it was a 200rpm drop. But if it brings vacuum up enough for smooth idle...

    Edelbrock 1407

Only issue I have is a very small hesitation right off idle when very slowly easing into the throttle, if I step into it more no hesitation. I have used vacuum gauge, changed springs, changed pump hole position, advanced initial timing etc. One of the reasons for removing carb was to take a look...

    Edelbrock 1407

Removed carb to put an insulator clean carb and check transition slot exposure. Couple of questions before putting it back together, any pros or cons to going higher or lower with float height dimension from stock 7/16” ? And also I’ve read that Herb Mc Candless at a seminar suggested leaving...

    Exh heat riser

It looks to me that this heat riser has been altered to stay open? I can only move it about 1/16” 1968 GTX 440

Retimed 440 with dial back light

Worked on it today to experiment a bit. 20* BTDC at 625 rpm in drive, place it in park idle jumps about 200 rpm. Best vacuum I could reach with this timing was 14hg in park dropping to 9hg in drive. I tried both ported and manifold vacuum, with manifold rpm drop from park to drive was more than...

Retimed 440 with dial back light

Thanks for all the replies, got back on it today and confirmed 20* idle full advance seems to be done around 25-2600 rpm and that’s at 36*. Hooked vacuum to full manifold and idle timing was 30* at 750rpm. Vacuum in gear read just about 10hg. FWIW I neglected to check where I started numbers...

Just curious, what would be gained by doing this ?

Retimed 440 with dial back light

Received an Innova dial back timing light and went to work. Prior to having it I was just doing the bump until it pings and backed off a bit, ran pretty good but was curious what my timing numbers were. Disconnected vacuum, set total to 36* at 2800-2900 rpm, checked at 750 rpm and landed at 20*...

    VIN data and statistics.

I understand that pre 69-70 cars are hard to track so how does Galen Govier do it? What does he have for resources?

    Another vacuum ?

Agree, had yellow 4” in and they were moving, put orange 5” and they really jumped went to 3” and they stayed down. IDK

    Another vacuum ?

BTW my vacuum reading now is steady at 15hg

    Another vacuum ?

Geoff, thanks for this I did it and ended up with blue 3” springs to keep pistons down in drive, cars definitely smells cleaner and smoother cruising on highway. Thanks again.
