Thanks for the information. The specifics are handy and conveniently I bought the summit dtm epoxy earlier this year before I realized what I was getting myself into.
I'm finally getting the motor pulled this weekend on my 72 charger se. I already bought the replacement floor pans and sheet metal.
What is the best order in which to do body work and paint?
My current plan is do the exterior metal work then strip the exterior and sparay it with epoxy primer...
Some backstory, the kid who owned my charger from swapped the B block for a 440, but without AC. So I want to put AC back in the car. I've searched the internet and have only found upgrade kits. Is there somewhere that just sells a whole kit to install AC or should I be searching used parts?
Jim, I've been following your post for awhile now and its quite impressive and inspiring. A lot of the things I've seen you do to your coronet gave me some the confidence I needed to say, "I don't need to pay someone to do all this bodywork, I can do that."
When I got my car it was mostly disassembled. I have 2 glove box doors and both are the same dimensions, the inside of the doors are slightly different. My key currently fits in and operates both locks. Does anyone have a picture of what theirs looks like so I can compare?
charger72, those inner fender braces look pretty good. The rubber on mine is cracked and worn, how would you go about either replacing it or repairing it?
This post has been very encouraging in the sense that I can do the smaller restoration things like you did while I wait for enough money to fix up the body
@moparmarks : no I don't have an air grabber hood now, but it would be a pretty sweet accessory.
@Nacho-RT74 : Thanks for that link, its jam packed with info I've been searching for on the web.
@nstyle73 : Yeah the kit says 70 roadrunner GTX and 71-72 charger, but the hood shape didnt seem to...
The guy before me swapped out the 400 for a 440 and with my current air filter the hood doesn't shut right. I assume My air filter isn't the right one and is too tall. But I saw this kit, https://www.herbsparts.com/proddetail.asp?prod=103-71KIT and thought to myself that sure would be sweet to...
So I bought it and one of the grooves was filled with bondo, and so I removed it so both sides match. I guess my question is, when I go to sand it all down and paint it and prep for the vinyl roof, is there anything different I would have to do? And is the SE vinyl different than any other 72 model?
Excellent thank you, I figured as much but wanted a solid answer first. Could you point me in the direction of how the SE vinyl top is different than the other versions?
I bought a 72 charger over the summer and now I'm starting to get into the thick of it. I've been searching everywhere trying to find a car with similar grooves as the first picture and am coming up with nothing. I assume they have to do with the vinyl roof. the second picture is of the notch...
