Sounds real similar to mine, installed an evac kit like what was posted and no issues since. Lost of spirited throttle usage since as well. I run a straight through muffler so no issues pulling vacuum. I posted a thread in the racers forum that came to about the same conclusion.
funny to see...
Huge improvements in the high-speed off-road application. the 727 just dropped too much RPMs for the range of the 440 wanted to be in. I was either revved out in 2nd or lugging in 3rd.
Also made it much more driveable on the road, prior I it is the same scenario where i was either tach'd in...
So this is where it gets a little more application specific
My 440 is warmed over and needed a higher stall than stock for optimal range, Suncoast was the only shop willing to take the stall up to 3500 for me. So i sent the stock one out to them and let them do their thing.
Once the plugs are...
So i got asked to elaborate on my swap a little bit, for starters this is not a B-body, nor is it even a car. But the principles and method of the swap should be the seem. Fitment for each car will be different, but not as bad as you may think, ill elaborate below
For starters i picked up a...
Food for thought, have the best of both worlds.... i mated a 8ph75 up to my warmed up 440. I can tell you with 100% confidence all the issues i had with my "old tech" was related to 3, very spread apart, gears.
The torque of the 440 paired with the gears of the 8 speed have me grinning ear to...
There we go, learned something new.
As mentioned my Evac kit should be here today to run both breathers down to the headers, so i dont intend to keep the setup above.
But learn me something here:
How would the evac kit in principle be any different than the above set-up? There would be no...
Here's some pictures of the engine bay and PVC set up, its hard to see but i think yall can get the jist of it, please excuse the the wiring mess, still haven't gotten to cleaning up everything i had to open up to get the correct sensors/power/grounds where they needed to go.
This is...
I believe this is directed at geoff, ironically your post 15 made me immediately made me go check my firing order lol.
And then after driving and rereading is what solidified my assumption for the backfire being the cause of the valley pan in my scenario.
Thanks for the input, its...
I realize this, the Evac kit is to help remedy the crank case pressure not the backfire.
I believe The backfire is from a lean condition from the PVC allowing air back into the intake manifold at the port it is tied into, the AFR is set to 12.5 on the TBI injection at WOT and the 02 sensor...
From a WOT when I let off, that's when it happens. Not a controlled deceleration, essentially a throttle dump.
Valley Pan is fine, very nice piece from Hughes.
Ill get a picture tonight when I get back to the truck, with the engine cage and the shock reservoirs its hard to get clear pictures...
Update on this:
Finally got the 8 speed shifting like i wanted, modern turning is a wild world. few numbers here and there make a world of difference. ANYWAYS why that's relevant is i finally got to do a few more WOT passes, and the cause of the leak revealed itself, i have an intake backfire...
I dont know how we got redirected to intake gaskets, probably my poor explanation lol. The valley plan blew open, if you look at the posted picture it has a hole in the sheet metal. that's where the oil came from. all gaskets/tv was sealed and not leaking.
I like this idea a lot, especially...
Interesting knowledge, I think i have timing all in at around 35 degrees, I do only run 91 in it and its 10.3:1 compression.
I couldn't get a good video but its not smoking at all at idle-3500rpms that i took it for the trans tuning log yesterday.
The PCV system exists but not a gauge with a...
This truck probably sees 40-50 hours of drive time a year (under 300 miles), so I'm asking for another 100-150 hours out of this powerplant before I pull it for a refresh/swap. Had the wrong carb gaskets so ill try to get a video of it idling today with the aforementioned blow-by. Have to do...
I realize in the world of finely tuned drag cars and pristine show cars that this is not deemed "healthy", I'm sorry if my choice in words was not satisfactory to your opinion, i should have said "Strong enough for my hobby"
It does not smoke at idle, it does not leak oil, it has some slight...
Going to address a few comments at once
The engine has blowby, i wouldn't call it excessive but its definitely present.
The valley pan was new +/- 5 years ago, no rust.
The engine had not seen 5k+ RPMs in some time, probably 3 plus years (the poor 727/stockish convertor trying to turn the...
That would be because its a hydraulic flat tappet. Apparently i was typing my wishes not my realities lol.
It has and still did run fantastic, a dead hole would be fairly obvious. I drove the truck into the shop and drove it around after i noticed the initial oil leak. Nothing seemed "off"...
Blew in the reward cylinder area. admittedly i mangled the pan a bit getting it off
Valley itself looks fine, no carnage, no noise, under low RPM there was not even any oil spillage, just when she was spinning north of 5k
I'm thinking the stuck PCV valve is the culprit, i ordered new ones...
So this isnt a B-body. Its actually not even a car....
I have a warmed over 440 with some edelbrock heads and a .550ish hydraulic tappet cam in this. 530hp/550 ft lbs on the dyno.
I swapped in a 8hp75 out of a 19 ram and was doing, lets call them "test passes" on the street nailing down some...
