I just took the nuts off to (possibly) drain it out quicker if that’s the issue here. Oil steadily dripping out of one of them as we speak. Observation: the stamped cutouts on each side of trans. mount were plugged with grease old dirt/too. I cleaned a few of them out…oil flowing out there too...
Are you saying the trans. mount caught some of the oil that poured out when I took speedo. cable out ?…and it’ll just take some time for all of it to empty? There’s a rubber block to absorb vibrations in there correct? Anything else? Just seems like it’s been dripping too long now…for just the...
Hi guys, 1962 Belvedere 318, 3 Speed Manual Transmission has leak coming right off bottom of transmission mount. I had speedo cable out recently to lube/put back in and replaced o-ring and it started leaking off transmission mount afterwards… BUT…there’s no apparent leak right above at speedo...
Still going on in 64 huh? That’s very interesting. My 58 Plymouth and 58 DeSoto do not have it.
Which model is the 21? My “32” is a (1962) Belvedere 2 door sedan which they made only about 3500 of. Most 2 door sedans were Savoys…I do believe.
That’s good to know. Thank you for sharing that info. I really wouldn’t have known unless I needed to do a pencil tracing of it (today for guy buying it from me). I didn’t have an issue registering it in my state when I bought it years ago…but the state DMV that the buyer lives in requires it...
Hi guys, Quick question…my 1962 Plymouth…just made an observation re: my VIN plate which is on driver door jamb/lower A-pillar. First two digits appear to be stamped from above…last 8 digits appear to be stamped from backside of plate. Is this right? Did Chrysler do this at factory…I hope? Had...
Hello Everyone, Thanks in advance for taking a look at this post. I have a 62 Plymouth Belvedere…speedometer is erratic…bouncing around…last drive even stopped working all together for a short time but then woke up before I got home. Speedo needle bounces around but at least it was approximately...
Thanks guys…that helps a lot. I appreciate it. Yeah, something is just not right. Last comment by Dave is exactly what I’ve been thinking. Always thought best way to find vac. leak is to spray WD-40 around intake/carb. area…if idle picks up there’s the leak. I did so…but can’t find anything...
Thanks Mike, I appreciate you looking all of that info. up for me. Good stuff to have. But…does my carb look like the 3240S that you’ve mentioned as the correct one for 1962 Plymouth small block v8?
Hopefully someone out there can get me on the right track. I have a 1962 Plymouth Belvedere with a poly 318/2 barrel Carter B&B carb. No tag on carb. It has manual transmission and manual brakes. Does someone here have what they know is an original stock 1962 w/318…and can tell me what the...
Just a follow up…70522 gasket worked great. Torqued to 50 ft lbs. no leaks…Engine is tight now except for very minor seepage from valve covers. Thank you to all who posted and helped me. I really appreciate it. So nice to look under car now and NOT see several puddles of oil.
Here’s my recently purchased 62 Plymouth Belvedere 2 door sedan. I had it painted last summer and just got her all back together. I had bumpers re-chromed and I de-dinged and polished all the stainless myself. Was very rewarding. Found a nice grill and other needed parts on eBay. It was...
I removed filter and then removed center stud/nut. Here’s what I found. Looks different than photo previously posted. Does a 70522 Felpro look correct for mine? I ordered one will pick up tomorrow am. Thanks
Felpro 70522…got it. Thanks so much guys. I’m happy this leak is easily fixable. Can anyone tell me which 318’s this oil filter plate gasket applies to? My 57 and 58’s had canisters. Does my 64 Poly have the same? I’ve owned several LA 318’s..I know I never saw this type of leak with them. Thanks.
I just changed the oil. I bought this filter as per what I use on my 1964 plymouth 318 and 1969 dodge 318. The old seal definitely came off with oil filter. I made sure. Always check for that because I heard it happens…but never even once has that happened to me. Also, I always wipe/clean gasket...
Is this typical for 1962 poly 318? Never saw this before. Never had to change a gasket under “the plate”. So I take it I should drop oil snd unscrew filter….then what? How does this plate come off?
