I cleaned up the crank today. Journals all look great. The seal surface where the front seal rides is not so hot. Don't they have a repair sleeve for this?
can you guys tell if this is a forged or cast crank from pictures. I would imagine its forged,
OK, at long last I have determined the connecting rods are 292 Chevy straight six rods. All three dimensions match, and they look the same in the details. Length of the 292 rod is 6.76. So if I did want to replace them with new remanufactured or NOS rods it would be fairly cheap. And they are a...
Yeah I haven't found a small block Chevy connecting rod anywhere near 6.75. Pontiac 400/455 rods come close at 6.67 or something like that. When I find one rod close in length, then the two ends don't match up
I got rid of the heads, as I could tell they were not street friendly, and the intake had been seriously cut down to match.
The pin diameter is 29/32.
As to my measurements, remember I don't have mics , so this is just ball park, probably off by a bit
piston diameter is 4.25, crank journal diameter is unknown because I don't have a mic big enough, but I did put down the big end rod size as 2 &3/16, so add bearing thicknesses and it should be around2.25, maybe slightly smaller. The rods are clearly factory as they are marked GM and some other...
And lastly, here's the offender, detonation is my guess, from the dumb-dumb trying to street drive the thing on pump gas. Luckily the adjacent cylinder wall looks fine
OK, back in December I started a dumb post called EX RACE CAR MOTOR< WILL IT BLOW ON THE STREET?, or some such dumbness. I finally dug it out today from under the work bench and I want to see what you guys think and test your Chevy/GM parts knowledge. More on that in a bit.

How would you go about finding the above mentioned convertor? From what I find it was called 2801764, but Im not finding much info on said convertor and who carries it?
OK, I.m almost done with my 727 build for the 71 Charger, so I need to pick a stall converter. I have spent two days internet shopping until my eyes are crossed, seems everybody hates Boss Hogg, B&M, and TCI ( actually more like 50/50). Hughes seems to get decent reviews. NOTE : this is not a...
Ok thank you, Upon deeper digging I guess the 2 spring setup is common to pre 71 trannies, but what's strange is that all three of my core trannies ,which are all post 71 have this earlier setup in them, John Cope, in one of his videos, says that the 2 spring setup is the best setup so I guess I...
OK that helps, but another issue is that in my front servo I have two springs, a long skinny spring that goes around the "nail" ( don't know what its called exactly), and then the larger spring. Is there supposed to be two springs in there? This is a truck tranny, if that matters
Almost done rebuilding this 727. Apparently I failed to keep the big servo springs ( front and rear) separated. One appears to be a slightly larger diameter. Pressure difference between them is not that noticeable to my hands. Length very similar too. I am guessing the larger spring goes in...
Someone gave me two large brass Mopar radiators. One is 26 x18 with 3 rows. 2949059. I figured that out as 1969 318/w/AC.
But the other I cant figure out. Its 2 rows and measures 27.5 x18.75 and has two numbers on it 4140978 and 18388
Thanky
