I found it a couple days later after cleaning my garage top to bottom. It made its way 30 feet away over another car and came to rest between the bumper and grill. Dumb luck that I saw it.
Does anyone know a part number or supplier for a replacement valve spring retainer for a 71 318? I was replacing the valve seals and the spring compressor let go and sent it flying. I can’t find a source for one.
I have the keepers.
I’m a switching to a Pertronix igniter and coil. There are 2 brown wires on the low voltage side of the ballast resistor, one to the coil and the other to the ignition switch. If I jumper the ballast resistor is it ok to send 12v to the ignition switch?
Second question. There is a small...
The previous owner of my 71 Satellite added an aftermarket front disk conversion. The rear line goes through the original distribution block to a manual pressure valve to reduce the pressure to the drums. Is it possible to replace the original distribution block with a factory disk/drum...
Good news. I got home from work this morning and put the car on the ground. Gave it a little push and it only rocked, so obviously the parking pawl is intact. I started it and shifted through the gears. Looks like they’re all there.
Thanks for the responses. False alarm. I guess I was in too...
I replaced my rear brake lines and while I had the back up on jackstands I threw it in gear to check the drum actuation. Before I checked to see if the wheels stopped rotating I put it in park to a ratcheting and clunk sound. Now it seems I have no gears. How bad did I break the transmission?
A few months back I posted that I may be able to buy a 1971 Satellite Sebring. The deal is done. The car was originally owned by my neighbor. I’ve had my eye on it since 1977 when I moved across the street from her. I tried for years to get her to sell it. She eventually gave it to her...
Same poor design as my Mustang. A real issue for cars stored outside. Leaves and debris would accumulate and rust it away in there. Since this car was garaged it’s whole life I’m hoping for the best there.
Good info here. Thanks guys. It’s going to be a long winter waiting to see what happens.
Where were these cars prone to rust? I know where Mustangs rust but not these cars.
Original paint, yes.
Might have rust. I did see her drive in the winter. Maybe a mile to the store. Not often. The picture is from last year.
Options unknown.
I won’t have access to the fender tag until she actually puts it up for sale.
Posting here for the first time because I may have an opportunity to buy a 71 Satellite next spring. I’ve known the car since 1977. The original owner was my neighbor, a real little old lady car. Driven rarely with only 30k miles. She became ill and gave the car to her mechanic a couple...
