I noticed that the starter relay was not tight against the firewall, but when I tried to tighten the bolts, they didn't have any "bite". Are these supposed to screw into captured nuts or just the firewall metal? For a part that is replaced it would seem strange to have to get way up there...

I wouldn't touch it. I think it looks fantastic as is.

If you can see any numbers on it, check out this: http://www.mouser.com They have almost any electronic part you need. From the leads I can see you might be able to cut near the resistor body and solder on a replacement if needed.

Thanks! I checked and this silver box (regulator?) is loose and all the wires seem loose as well. Considering there's power going through it I will remove the battery and tighten everything down. I think this MAY be the problem!
