California Car exemptions by Jay Leno

I really love that Texas stopped the BS on getting an older vehicle inspected for anything! My newest vehicle is a 97 2500 diesel, then a 96 Dakota and a 95 Dakota. The only thing wrong with the Dakotas is the dang wiper bushings. Both of them broke over 6 months ago and I absolutely hate...

    ball-joint socket needed

I've used the 3/4 to 1/2 adaptor too for a lot of jobs but have always used a good hard hitting 1/2" drive impact. Have to reverse the impact several times in some cases but with enough penetrating oil and enough reverses, they spin on out. I'm just surprised the adaptor has lasted so long with...

I'm guessing I'm not understanding......when the stat is open, isn't the pressure the same in both the engine and rad? I did mention not running one and my temp was higher but that was the only time to run without one.

It builds pressure.....just not as much since the coolant isn't up to standard temp.

440 heating only on highway speeds

Have you ever ran an engine without a thermostat? I have and it ran hotter than it did with one. Looks to me that the coolant can flow too fast and the thermostat acts as somewhat of a restriction? Now on my beater Dakota, the thermostat seems to be stuck as the temp never does come up very fast...

440 heating only on highway speeds

Some years back my old 95 Dakota started over heating with the 2 core small tube factory radiator. A buddy gave me a used single but way bigger tubes and that thing is still in the truck and running too cool even in 100+ degree weather here in Texas sitting in traffic with the AC on full. The...

    Two questions.

Do a compression check on the engine.....it'll tell you what it might like for timing. The lower the cranking compression usually means more timing that it will like. Been down this road many times! And who installed the cam? Even the lowest of the low performance engines should be 'degreed' in...
