After trying (and failing) to find some original inserts - the ones that slide into the front of the molding - I decided to make my own. The inserts that come with the new plastic clips are a weird design that look far less functional than the original. They are oblong, with a cheap-looking...
Once I get the rocker panel trim cleaned up, what's the best method to reinstall them on the Coronet?
Any tips? Hook the top and snap the bottom on... or vice versa?
I'll be installing the chrome trim on the rockers of my 68 Coronet soon, and I'm hoping there might be some instruction here among the tribe or somewhere on the web. Anyone know of a tutorial out there in regards to installing the clips?
I'm about to the point of reinstalling the chrome trim on the windshield and rear glass (68 Net). I sure wish I had taken some notes on how I removed it!
Any advice on which piece to start with?... Tips?... Warnings? Thanks guys!
I just bought the pentastar emblem for the fender. I see that it has not only the main stud, but also an anti-spin pin. I'm guessing the pin hole got mudded over in the body shop, because my fender doesn't have one (68 Coronet).
So, my question is this: where should that pin hole be drilled...
My new (repop) wheel opening moldings and rocker panel moldings just arrived yesterday, and a question just popped into my head: Do I need to have them anodized or clear-coated?? I know when polishing the old ones, we have to remove the anodization, but not sure if the new ones need any...
I'm to the point in my rebuild (68 Coronet) where I need to brighten up the wheel moldings, rear window trim, sill plates, and rocker covers. (Wait for the dumb question).....
Which of these are stainless, and which are aluminum? I need to do some research on the best way to restore and...
I'm going to be trying to clean up the rocker panel covers on my 68 Coronet. Does anyone know... are they aluminum of stainless? And what's the best way to clean up 50 years of scunge? Thanks much!
On a 68 Coronet (probably all late-60's Mopars), does the rear window have a gasket like the windshield has?... or just some sort of sealing material like butyl tape? I know there are different thicknesses of the tape too. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
The wait is over. As of yesterday, Nadine is in the blast booth! Since she doesn't have a fender tag or broadcast sheet, she'll be getting the color of my choice... 1968 R1 Burgundy.
(68 Coronet) My windshield has 26 clips for the chrome trim... 10 on the top, 10 on the bottom, and three on each side. The bottom ones are all the tall size (right), everything else is the shorter ones (middle)... except! I have two VERY short clips (left) on the top edge, at or near the top...
I just removed the windshield chrome and the glass. There was a ton of sealer/glue in the lower trim pieces. What's the best solvent to soak the pieces in to get this gunk out of the trim? ...gas? ...kerosene? ...dykem? Obviously I don't want to hurt the chrome, so I'd rather not just chink...
I tried finding this on the interweb, but I'm not even sure what it's called. It's the rubber seal that the door AND quarter glass close against (68 Coronet 2dr hardtop). Who carries replacements?
As I continue to disassemble my 68 Net, I got around to pulling the doors off today. I've already bought the replacement door hinge pins and bushings from Napa, and I noticed something... the kits come with bushings for both upper and lower hinges; but I noticed there were no existing bushings...
I'm starting to remove trim, chrome, etc. in preparation for the blast guy... then paint. I'm at the point of disassembling the doors. I'm looking for help with the proper steps, possible pitfalls and any general advice before I start the process and screw something up. Thanks in advance.
I'm getting ready for the journey into Paint Land. Does anyone know how to remove the quarter trim on a 68 Coronet 500? I'm assuming they're on push-in clips, but not sure and I didn't want to just start yanking... that seldom ends well.
Does anyone know where I can get regular spray cans in original Mopar colors. I need RR-1 Burgundy Metallic. I found touch up bottles, but no spray.
