I need some help diagnosing a problem.
Took the car out last week and was getting smoke rolling out from the back passenger tire around the drum when I got home. Pulled the tire and drum, and the brakes are not dragging and I see no fluid leaks. Turned the hub in neutral and not hearing...
Had a few sections of the fuel line patched with rubber line(especially by the tank) so bought a full length pre-bent line. I have the rear tire off and have the line routed from the front ok but am not seeing how this goes in around the exhaust in the back. And the angle of the end of the...
I plan on temporarily hooking up an electric fuel pump I have for some tests. Wonder if anyone has experience and knows, can I just unhook the lines from the mechanical and run the car with it still installed or will it screw the pump up running dry?
I have some very slow leaks around my oil pan after an oil change so wanting to change the gasket. I am looking at it and read how to remove it from the service manual but think I am going to run into issues with the headers. Manual says to take off stock exhaust pipes from manifolds to get...
Did they use both the small and large TRW pumps on the 68 Charger? Looking to buy a seal kit from Napa and it just says it is for a Thompson(TRW). Store guys were no help.
I am using a TRW power steering pump on my vehicle. I just noticed that the pump pulley is slightly misaligned with the main pulley. Can the pulley just be pulled out a little on the shaft with no harm? I need to pull it out about 3/16" to line it up.
Hoping to get some insight on one. Last week I swapped out my header gaskets for some copper ones. Have no idea if changing those is related but yesterday at right about 5k rpm (first time I pushed it up there since gasket change)the sound tone of the engine all of a sudden noticeably...
I am probably just not thinking this through right now but just got back from my first nitrous run (around town) and am getting a miss/pop at around 4800+ rpm. Is it not enough fuel or timing not retarded enough??? I am running a 125 hp shot and backed off timing by 5-6 degrees. My timing...
Getting slippage on acceleration in first gear so afraid my clutch is going. Anyone know how much the A833 4 speed weighs before I drop it on my chest.
Can anyone tell if these pistons are stock? The previous owner changed some things on the car to race it (4 speed, Dana 60 with 410's, hd leafs in back) and started me wondering if he bored out the cylinders and replaced the pistons. I do know the 383 engine was rebuilt some time in the past...
Got my car tuned up to where I want it and it runs great now except when I was out today and stomped on it and it hit higher rpms(5500+) it backfired twice. Not the loud shotgun backfire but loud enough. I did just switch to a mechanical fuel pump so thinking it may be running out of fuel at...
What is the concensus on how far open to have the secondary plates? I was getting very little response on idle mix screws so backed the secondary plate screw all the way out to close them more and now it is too rich at idle and can't lean it out enough(eyes are burning in garage at idle)...
I am replacing the electric fuel pump with original mechanical pump setup(that buzzing noise is getting too annoying). On the existing setup, the steel fuel line coming from the tank stops at about the firewall and then it is a mix of copper line and rubber hose to the regulator, then fuel...
Trying to find an easy way to tune the air/fuel as close as I can. I have an old sunpro air/fuel guage. I can get an oxygen sensor off of eBay for cheap but do not want to go through the whole thing of tapping the header to mount it. I just want to get the initial tune as close as possible...
Two part question. I have read in many articles about using a vacuum gauge to tune the carb. The theory being to get the highest pressure reading as possible at idle.
My 1st question is I can get the pressure reading to rise quite a bit (11-15)by turning in the idle speed screw but my...
I suspect my dipstick is off. It reads low with the correct amount of oil added. The guy who owned it before raced it so I'm wondering if he changed out the oil pan. Is there any trick to figuring out the correct oil level if you suspect your dipstick is off or a bigger oil pan was...
Hoping you guys may have some insight.
When I barely push down on the clutch pedal you can hear a slight grinding noise. It goes away when you push the pedal further down. Noticed it while sitting in neutral and warming it up in from sitting about 6 weeks. Anything to worry about??
833 4 speed
Anyone know the top line pickup from downgrading from 410's to 356 in the rear? I am doing about 3500 rpm at 55mph now. How high will the mph get at that same 3500 rpm if I go down to 356?
Running a 383 with a 3310 4 barrel Holley. This thing is running way too rich. Actually burning my eyes at idle. I have backed the adjustment screws out to about 1/2 turn out from full seat on both sides and have backed down my idle screw so I am at about 900 rpm. It has an electric fuel...
Anyone ever use gas with Valvtect added or know anything about it? A local marina has it added to all their gas and is supposed to counter ethanol. Wondering how it will do on my 1970 engine.
Here is a link to it.
