Been annoyed with an oil leak so pulled the 440 RB engine today. Thought it was RMS, but looks to be head gaskets. Engine was rebuilt 6 years ago and my buddies call it a race motor, it’s only 10.5:1 compression with a custom roller cam that makes enough vacuum for my power brakes, aluminum...
I'm thinking about going from bolts to studs for attaching the oil pan/windage tray to my 440. I've seen several people mention they've used studs, but no mention of a kit or anything. The oil pan bolts are 5/16-18 but can't seem to find anything. ARP makes an oil pan stud kit for a Ford...
I have the oil pan off my motor to fix a RMS leak, and I am so tired of the oil pan not holding a layer of paint and looking like crap. Perhaps the paintwork prep was crap as there is no primer on it, just VHT hemi orange on a Moroso pan. The Moroso pan originally had that gold color but that...
Having my transmission rebuilt and have the option of getting a reverse manual valve body. The Bee is a column shift and having it be a reverse manual would definitely save the danger now of manual shifting and accidently going from 2 to N when shifting. Being reverse I would at least go from...
My 69 Super Bee was originally a 383 N96 car, but when I got it, it had a Six Pack on it, and was slapped roughly together. Over the years I've tried to correct the Six Pack setup by getting the correct return springs, carb linkage and so forth. I even ordered the complete Six Pack kickdown...
This past Saturday night I was out with a buddy of mine and his 70 Charger R/T and we were messing around on some back roads. He accelerated, and I followed suit and as I was accelerating, I was overcome by stupidity, and downshifted from D to 1 (with my 727). For a split second, the car...
So I took the cover off the Dana 60 hoping to find something but nothing looks unusual to my unknowing eye. Ring teeth look excellent. I did the FSM test with car in air, car in park, and tried spinning each wheel which I couldn’t. That tells me the LSD should be good.
Would very dirty fluid...
So today I started my freshly rebuilt 440 and worked out the normal teething problem leaks. However, I noticed a nice oil pool on the ground at the back of the motor and can't believe this!! I'm grasping at straws here, but might a RMS leak with break in oil versus normal oil? :wtf:
I have a 440 Six Pack and put in Promax's 3/8 carb fuel lines and of course it's not a perfect fitment with everything else. Because the flexible fuel lines and all the connectors are bigger, my Firecore distributor vacuum canister hits it and now the distributor can't be time properly. I'm...
Trying to solve my fuel gauge problems so I decided to buy a Bill Rolik 440 sending unit. Pulled out the Spectra unit and found fuel in the plastic float. (WTF?!?!?!). Quite the difference between Bill's unit and the Spectra unit. Bill's unit looks top quality. I've attached photos of Bill's...
I'm in the process of freshening my 440+ RB block and we came across this black crud on the pistons and intake valve. My builder is thinking this might be from reversion but we can't figure out what is causing it. I have 2" headers into 3.5" collectors out a full 3" exhaust. I also have...
Do all the Trick Flow heads have angled spark plug holes? And if so, is anyone running Trick Flow heads with TTI 2" headers? You would think as part of Trick Flow's published specs on the heads they would state what kind of spark plug hole they have (i.e., straight or angle).
I read some...
I'm looking at getting a vacuum pump so I can run whatever cam I want in my 440 RB motor and still have vacuum for my power brakes and I've been looking at what's out there. Seems a lot of the reviews rate the pumps as noisy, or some lack everything needed for an install so more money has to be...
I'm trying to do a compression test on my 440 while the motor is on the ground. I've got the transmission hooked back up with the starter in place, and I've got a positive wire going from battery to starter positive. Have a negative wire from battery going to starter negative. Nothing...
My apologies straight away for yet anther cam question.
The engine is a 512 RB, has the Super Stealth heads (so evidenlty flows heaps), 1.5 rockers, 10.3:1 compression, and Six Pack setup. Car has a 4:10 gear with 28" tall tires, and a 727 with 2200 converter (street car and 4:10 gets RPMs up...
I'm pulling the 440 motor out of my 69' Super Bee and it has a GearVendor OD ("GV") unit on the 727 so the trans is much longer than a stock 727. Therefore, I can't pull the motor and trans out together.
Consulting the FS manual and Six Pack Handbook, it looks to be easy enough (I doubt this)...
So I had to get a new center Holley 2300 for my Six Pack setup. Prior to this the car ran fine with no issues. Now that the new Holley is on, the car surges when cruising steady at 40mph and 50mph, and when the road goes uphill you can feel the car floundering going uphill. With the headers...
I was doing some more tuning of my Six Pack and tested the Holley vacuum secondaries with a vacuum pump. The secondary throttle blades move a little when I'm squeezing the vacuum pump trigger, but the secondary doesn't get sucked open and stay open. I can hear what sounds to be a vacuum leak...
So this happened to me while driving yesterday, somehow ground the teeth off this Milodon intermediate shaft drive gear, and left me stranded luckily near the house. The shaft/gear is roughly year and half old. Anyone else have issues like this? What would cause this?
I've got a Six Pack on a 440+ ci motor. Cam's a roller, here's the specs: duration 240/248; valve lift @50 540/545; LS 112.
Been messing with the carbs (center carb) trying to get the car to idle better. Smelled kinda rich while idling. Fully reset the idle mixture screws and now getting...
