1974 727B where tailshaft housing bolts onto tranny,there is an empty threaded hole,almost looks like a barrel washer that moves in and out. What is it for?(see pics)

Finally fixing trans pan gasket leak.Dropped pan and found shavings on bottom of pan and on filter.Seems the tail-shaft bearing has alot of play,can hear it about 3/4 of the way up the tail-shaft.Going to pull the tail shaft and try to replace the bearing.Anybody know where i can get the bearing...
