Assembling the lower end on my 440 and when I get to the rod bearings I discover 1 bearing has an oil hole. Where does it go? Rod side or cap side? I researched all afternoon. The only thing I could find is oil hole must point towards cam. WTF does that mean? It's 440 with LY rods, be gentle...
I'm getting ready to order parts for my 440 build. I've never tried file fit rings so I'm looking for a little guidance. What I have, 440 bred .060 over forged aluminum flat tops. I'm not sure yet how far down in the hole they are going to be. 516 heads that have been shaved just enough to clean...
I went to the machine shop this morning to drop off my new to me crank for polishing. I'm glad you're is what my machinist says, he then proceeds to show me this
As he started honing a piece popped out of the cylinder

Thanks.
I disassembled the 440 that came in my rt today and this is what I found. 2 different heads 1 a 452 the other is unknown as there are no casting numbers. Cast crank in good condition..060 oversize pistons fairly new, the rods appear to be in great shape. But, they have been numbered twice and...

Does anyone know by chance the length of 727 dipstick for a 71 b body 440? I have the tube but no dipstick and nobody I can find sell just the dipstick.
I actually got started about 4 months ago, gathering up a engine tearing down and inspecting. Took 2 months to get block cleaned and sonic checked along with heads being reworked. So I started ordering parts today and immediately ran into a snag. Availability, shout out to 69bee for the help...

I'm getting ready to start the project. Patient is a 71 satellite that has a factory 318. I know that I need to change the motor mounts. But which are the best? I've looked at several on line and a lot of them look different from each other. Please share what you know.
I just swapped out my open 2.71 carrier to a 3.55 sure grip. I'm running 235 60R15 tires.
Assuming my speedometer was correct before. What would the speed difference be?
I've been looking and looking for a sure grip unit for my 8.25 rear. I have ordered 3 different units 2 from jegs and 1 from Summit. Each time they take the order then cancel due to whatever reason, doesn't matter. Does anybody know of a reliable source to find this part?
Thanks Roger
Here we go I have a 8.75 489 case diff in my charger. I done the spin the whell trick they go opposite direction. Is it possible that a suregrip will mimic a open carrier if it is in need of rebuilding.
