    NOS Lifters advice needed

Hey Everybody, I scored some USA made NOS Elgin lifters on eBay, and they arrived today. They are new and look really good. The old cardboard box even has survived well, and each lifter was boxed. Who knows how long they were on a shelf? But, I saw what my 2019 Comp Cams lifters looked like...

Is this Comp Cams Camshaft wiped-out?

Hey Everyone! This is the camshaft in my 383 from my Scamp. (Comp Cams 21-222-4 262/270, Lift .462/.470 purchased in 2019) I completed break-in 20 min 2,000 RPM, correct oil, Zinc, etc. I'm in the process of getting this car moving again (long story). I saw an UTG video in which he stated that...

WIW 383 .030" over short block

Hey guys, I have an opportunity to buy a rebuilt 1969 383 .030" over, and seller is stating it has 10.5 to 1 flat top pistons. It's just the short block. Rebuilt 10 years ago and stored well. No machine shop paperwork. What do you think it's worth? Thanks!

B&M Quick Silver shifter - cutting / trimming the tower (cover)

I've installed this shifter in my 75 Scamp over the past couple days. I still need to trim the front and rear portions of the cheapo plastic tower. I have a "contour gauge" on the way. Have you installed a similar shifter? How did you go about trimming the tower? Any tips you can offer? I'm...

    Piston Ring Compressor

Hello guys! I'm going to be purchasing a ring compressor for my 383 piston installation. I was going to get one of the Chinese made ratcheting band style, then came across the ARP 4.250 tapered ring compressor. The band style is only $10 or so, the ARP is $55. Which have YOU used? This is my...

    Connecting Rod and Cap Fitment

While installing my piston rings, I noticed the little number stamp on each rod and cap where they meet. I know this 1968 383 has never been opened up, so this must have been factory. I read here and elsewhere that others have noticed this as well, but not all 383/440s have the little stamp. Is...

    Timing Chain install 383

Hey folks, once again I need some help. I installed the timing chain Summit https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-g6604r-9 with 9 keyways. I installed crankshaft sprocket at "0". My good buddy told me I should have used the 4 degree advance keyway. Is he right? He claims most Mopar engines...

    Comp Cams dowel pin

My new Summit timing chain set (Cam gear) will fit on my original cam and the dowel is flush with the face of the gear. On this new Comp Cams cam, the dowel on the cam protrudes above the face of the cam gear - I can not tighten the cam bolt, washer interferes. WTF? Anyone experience this?

    SCE Gasket rear main seal

I received this for my 383 today. Does this seem right, from what you can tell from the photos? I installed one half of the seal in the cap, and it doesn't quite seem right. I can easily press down on the seal surface where it would contact the crank, and it appears as if I install this, the...

Camshaft Install - how tight is too tight?

I installed new Clevite cam bearings in my 383 build. I slid the Comp Cams camshaft in and it's tight. I read here and on FABO of some guys scraping the bearings where there's a tight fit. I used Lisle 18000 cam installer tool, and the bearings aren't cockeyed. I pulled the cam and installed...

    Aluminum transmission pan

Do any of you run an aluminum transmission pan on a street car? I am considering one for my 68 Road Runner. I'm wondering about any clearance issues, bottoming out. My car is a stock height. If you use one, which one? I know some are deeper than others. Any made in USA? I know that's rare these...

Going back to 3:23 from 3:91 Tech help and opinions needed

Shortly after I bought my 68 Road Runner in 1993, I decided to swap out the 3:23 open 742 center for a 3.91 742 unit I bought from Herb McCandless with rebuilt clutch SG and new Strange 3.91 ring and pinion. Now, I want to go back to 3.23's. I still have the 742 open 3.23, but I was thinking I...

Is Your B-Body Mopar Matching Numbers?

I know some of you couldn't care less, and some believe owners are "bragging" when they say their car is a numbers matching car. What say you?

Budget 383 rebuild - opinions needed.

Several years ago I picked up a ’68 383 long block. I bought it from a friend of a friend who said it was running when pulled. It is a 9.2:1 2bbl motor. I disassembled it last year thinking I would do a total rebuild (my first ever). I have the resources to do this, but financially things have...
