Once again my lack of knowledge is getting put into the FBBO brain trust.
With the center section removed from the housing (in my case...a 741) how can you tell if it is a Sure Grip or Open ?
Pictures would be helpful.
Thanks !
Ok, so my car...which absolutely hates me, has once again come up with a way to crush my hopes.
Thursday I had it out driving after doing the shade tree alignment. After which, I washed it all up nice and pretty. It sat out all day just lounging in the sunshine. Come evening, I fired it up and...
I have a 71 charger with a 8 3/4 and 3.23 gears. It whines like a 5 year old in a toy store. Is that normal ? I mean I get that it physically spins faster and that therefore could possibly make more noise.
I have question pertaining to the results of priming.
440 that I just finished putting back together. At TDC on #1. No parts were replaced except for timing gear and chain set. I aligned them according to the big block engine rebuilding book. Cam was not out, so cam bearing cannot be blocking...
Ok, so yesterday afternoon, I installed the oil pan gasket, windage tray, 2nd gasket, and pan. I used a thin coat of RTV on each. When I tightened the pan bolts, the gaskets squeezed out between the bolts. I do not like the result, nor do I trust it not to leak. I never even got anywhere near...
Well, here goes...I need a dipstick and tube assembly for a '68 727 and 71 440 RB block. I tried the online purchase and it does not fit. It "should" have 2 mounting tabs, one just above the o-ring for attaching to the transmission...and the other for the bellhousing. Anybody have one of these...
Ok, as a professed transmission idiot...I get more than a tad confused when it comes to buying a torque converter.
The information seems limitless; stall speed, 9,9.5,10, 11 inch? Weighted or not? Is my engine internal or externally balanced ?
There are so many variables. I didn't get to drive...
I am going to be pulling the 727 out of my car and want to make sure I have it high enough off the ground to get the transmission out. Right now I have it about 16-16.5 inches from the ground to the bottom of rocker seam/edge.
Can someone let me know if that is enough room ?
Obviously it is a 727 automatic on my 440 charger. Runs good, nice idle, but it will quit when it goes into gear. I drove it around the property last fall. It had the same issue but, functioned in gear (fwd and rev) while driving.
I want to put a considerably better quality 727 pan gasket of my car. I have gone through two of the cheap rubber ones. They are terrible, both leaked with only a few hours of runtime. I had checked and straightened the pan and mating surface prior to installation. I really want something that...
Well, maybe...
I have my motor all put back together except for carb and dizzy. I figured that it was a good time to pre-oil the motor since the valve covers are not nailed down yet. Being that I am doing this in the cold in an unheated barn, I was worried that moisture would be an issue the...
I am putting a holley 4160 with dual feed lines. It does not appear that I will be able to put the coil in the original location as the dual fuel line will be occupying the same space. I could be wrong as I do not have the fuel line yet.
Advice ?
I have done searches on this site and on the internet. The more I look, the more confused I am getting.
So, I took my 440 and pulled the heads due to 2 bent pushrods. I decided to check the timing chain and sprockets "while I was in there". Now, I have read many times that with the cam and crank...
A simple task made miserable by headers ! The damn thing is trapped like a canary in a cage. I disconnected the headers to get to the bolts, removed the starter, but that is as far as I can get. I cannot get the starter or the header out of the car. The PO "custom" fit the headers by caving...
Going through the numbers on my car I came across this part number on the tranny, PK2801543L 2469 1434. This looks to me to be the number for a 67-68 383. It is installed in my 71 440 RB HP.
Is it going to puke the first time I try to drive it ?
I am confused as to what tranny this is since the...
In my previous thread I was curious as to what the original carb was for my '71 440 HP A/T motor. This post calls into question what is the easiest, more dependable carb to choose. I already have the Holley double pumper, but would need to get the dual fuel lines and set it up from scratch. I do...
What was the stock carb for a '71 440 Magnum ? Was it a Carter ? I am just curious before I go down the rabbit hole and install the Holley Double pumper.
