I was reading the oil pressure thread by ZDECKICH and it got me thinking about my own situation. I have a 440 that rarely gets above 22 psi even when over 3000 rpm. This is on a OEM brand repo gauge, I will hook up a mechanical gauge to see what it says. I was talking about it with a friend and...
My 440 has Hooker headers. The right side header leaks so we replaced the gasket but it still leaks. I had a mechanic check it with a stethoscope and the leak is in the centre of the header. He thinks the header is warped.
Question 1: Can you plane that header down flat?
Question 2: Can you buy...
I replaced my pushrod a few weeks ago and was lucky enough to find an NOS Mopar Performance one from 2007. There's a lot of talk about poor quality rods but I think it should be a good one. So now I'm looking for a good spare and it's doubtful that I'll find another NOS rod, but if you have one...
How does going to a smaller exhaust produce more hp? To my thinking larger exhaust would allow more airflow through the engine and therefore you could supply more fuel.
How long is the fuel pump stroke on a 440? My Edelbrock pump is 1/4” by hand. Is that all it is or is it just too stiff to push full stroke by hand. My push rod is worn down about 9/32” which would mean it wouldn’t be stoking the pump at all.
I need a new push rod for my 440 fuel pump. Old one measures 2.9"! Engine has a 2192 Edelbrock cam. Summit shows rods with bronze, chromoly and billet steel tips. Which one should I use?
What sealant do I use on the two plugs at the bottom of the block when I drain the coolant? Just regular pipe dope or is there something that’s more heat resistant?
I took the 68 Charger out for the first time yesterday. 440 with MSD. After about 20 minutes of highway driving to get to town it stumbled, I feathered the gas, it recovered and I drove in town for about another 10 minutes. Then it stumbled again and I was feathering the gas but it died and...
I replaced the rear main seal in a 440 the other day. How critical is it to put a little oil on the seal before installing it? I have everything buttoned up and missed doing that. I haven’t put the oil back in the engine yet. Wondering if I should redo it all.
I replaced, unsuccessfully, the rear main seal. It’s a 440 engine. The truck has sat for six weeks but I continue to have oil collect in the bottom of the bell housing. So a couple questions.
For it to collect there it would have to be getting past the rear main seal and draining back the shaft...
I have a 340 with 10.1 compression. Plugs are 12 years old so I thought I'd replace them. Current ones are Bosch Super RO 362. Is there a better option?
A few weeks ago I posted about swapping in a new Champion radiator and that the shroud was now set back from the rad and left a one inch gap at the top. I thought would let air into the fan and reduce the air coming through the rad. So I had a guy make a filler piece and today I fit it, painted...
I swapped in a new rad into my 68 Charger and now the fan is pretty much fully immersed in the shroud. I know it should only be 1/3 to 1/2 way in but how much will this effect the amount of air it will pull?
I have a 68 Charger with 440. I wanted a bigger rad to help with a cooling issue as the research point to that. I got a Champion aluminum with a 2.5” three tube core.
Here’s the skinny on it. It’s a beautiful looking rad and I like the black better than the aluminum look. However, there were a...
The Ring Gap Questions thread makes me realize how little I know about rings. So I take it that the ring gap is the space between the two ends of the ring. How do you adjust? Aren’t the rings preformed?
If the job of the ring is to seal between the piston and the cylinder wall then doesn’t it...
