I need some help from the brain trust here please! First some specs:
* Small block LA 340, bored .030" over
* Stroker crank, so now displaces 416 CI
* HAD a hydraulic flat tappet cam (more on that below)
* Aluminum Renegade brand heads
* 1.5 ratio roller rockers
* New hydraulic lifter cam...
Some of you may have been following along with my HawkRod RoadKill restoration thread and read about this. I am also trying to leave in a couple of days on a cross country trip and really want to get this fixed. I am posting this here to try and get broader viewing in case there are some good...
Some quick details:
73 Road Runner, 340 and 727, 3.55 rear. Car was a regular driver, and no issues with the transmission. Almost 4 years ago the 340 threw a rod out the block and I am now just putting the car back together. I have very limited time, but want to try to ensure the 727 works...
I am building a 340 stroker for my 1973 Road Runner. (Thread: https://www.forbbodiesonly.com/moparforum/threads/the-first-hawk-rod-resurrection-roadkill-style.213411/)
My old headers (don't remember the brand), have the passenger side tubes run under the steering linkage, and it makes ground...
Hi,
A buddy has a 1967 GTX with an 18 spline Hemi transmission and a Dana 3.54 rear.
What bellhousing and flywheel would have come with the car? I believe it was an 11" flywheel, but I am unsure of the bellhousing number/ specs.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Hawk
First, pardon what may be basic questions - I am not an engine builder so I want to make sure I do things right.
Engine: 400 block stroker, 500 cubic inches. Was a running engine, removed from donor car in November. Only work done to it was a new oil pan and re-seated intake manifold. I am now...
Found this article from Hot Rod on line. It's from 2017, so sorry if I missed it and someone has posted about it before. But I thought it was a great read about the 340.
I had a 340 in my 73 Road Runner that I built to earlier specs. It ran awesome...
I am trying to install the transmission onto my bellhousing and would appreciate some advice. I posted to my build thread, but figured I would put a link here as well in case folks didn't see the question buried in my build thread.
I'd appreciate some of the FBBO brain trust to help! Please...
So I saw an ad selling an R block, and subsequently a question about what an R block was. So I did some searching and came up with the below listed site. While I can't personally vouch for the accuracy of the information, it certainly seems to come from someone who knows a lot. Hope some find...
Crap.
My son was driving his 1973 Road Runner (was my first car) on the highway back to college and the engine blew. It's a 340 with a 727. My son said that there was a loud bang, then smoke and that was it.
When we got it home, the engine is completely seized and will not turn at all. In...
So I have one (hopefully) final issue I want to address with the Road Runner before I leave for my trip on Saturday:
My clutch linkage "chatters" and is not smooth. Note that this is not the clutch itself, it engages the flywheel smoothly. The car accelerates from a stop smoothly too. It...
So I have some transmission woes from my 1970 Road Runner with 383 & 4 Speed.
I made my own K-Member cradle and when I had the engine and trans attached and was moving it around, the jack fell from the transmission and the tail shaft of the transmission fell and took a hit with all the weight...
I have now confirmed that my A-833 leaks fairly significantly at the rear seal area. The FSM calls this the "Extension Housing Yoke Seal".
I would like to remove and replace this seal with the transmission in the car. The FSM shows a special tool, C-3985, that looks like a large pickle...
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I am going to Carlisle tomorrow and need to buy a bellhousing inspection cover for my 1970 Road Runner with a 383 and A-833 4 speed (10.5" clutch). The pictures I see on line make the big block and small block covers look very similar.
Can anyone help me with some...
So based on the expense and hassle to install head pipes to my original exhaust manifolds, I have decided that it is better to bite the bullet and just get headers.
I know they are expensive, but TTI headers seem to be the way to go, not just for fit, but also for good ground clearance (which...
OK, this may be a stupid question, but here goes...
I removed the old C-body exhaust manifolds from my 70 Road Runner with a 383. There are currently studs in place at each location. I am now in the process of bolting up correct HP exhaust manifolds, but they have deep well holes in some...
While I am waiting for title issues on my 1970 Road Runner :angryfire:, I have been thinking about the engine/drive-line build.
My starting point is a stock, 80,000 mile 335 HP 383 with a 4 speed and 3.55 8 3/4.
Goals: 400+ Horsepower and 20 MPG highway, keep the original 383, A-833 and keep...
I am replacing the intake manifold gaskets on a 340. The new Felpro gaskets came with 4 red "locator" plastic pieces (see picture).
While this seems like a good idea, especially since the last set of gaskets did seem to slip, I am worried about the thickness of the plastic interfering with it...
A question for the extremely knowledgable forum! :notworthy:
When I eventually rebuild my now stock 1970 335HP 383, I would like to stroke the engine. If you go to 440 Source, for example, there are two stroker kits for the 383. One strokes it to 438 cubes and the other strokes it to 496...
