I'm looking for some genuine, published, Mopar oil pressure numbers for 440 engines. Cold, warm, hot - idle, curb idle, above 1,200 RPM - 10W30-10W40. I'm not looking for "I get this on my engine...", just actual numbers from the historical writings. :)
I installed a new carb return spring and cable kickdown setup on the 440 in my Roadrunner on Sunday. Took it out and drove it around, and aside from some issues with the kickdown coming in too soon, there were no issues. I ended the drive with an awesome burnout in front of my house that brought...
I finally got rid of the kickdown lever that was causing me issues. At first, all I heard about was the Lokar system. I priced it out and found you have to buy the cable kit and carb bracket, which together cost about $109. After finding out there are other vendors, I did some checking and found...
My 440 has been running just fine, but I put a digital tach on this weekend. This is the first time I've used a digital one, and I'm used to the sweep needle variety. These needles have always jiggled a little, but I never gave it much thought as long as it stayed right about where it should be...
I'm tired of dealing with kickdown issues, and want to go to a Lokar system. Drivetrain is a 440, with a Holley 850, and a 727 trans. What all do I need to make the swap?
I found the source of the red ooze that's been clogging up my fuel filter. I dropped the gas tank and pulled the sender unit and holy crap! There wasn't much left of it. How gas was still getting up it is a mystery to me. It was completely corroded, holes eaten through parts of it, and the float...
I'm putting a new fuel tank in this weekend. It's bare metal right now, and I'm wondering if I should paint it first? I watched the Graveyard Carz folks install a new one on a Challenger recently, and they put it in unpainted, and can't help but think painting it would be the better way to go...
After suffering another clogged fuel filter incident, I've decided it's time to replace the gas tank on the 74 Roadrunner. Looking at prices, 1974 tanks are about $200 more than 1973, I'm guessing because of that hump on the top. It looks like the openings for the filler tube and sender are the...
Okay, this one is a first for me. I know my trans issues are resolved because this problem just came up.
My 74 Roadrunner, 440, full tank of gas, starts on the first crank, idles fine, and revs fine. Put it into gear and drive down the road, no problem. But now it's started pinging when I...
I posted here recently that my 727 failed, and I was wondering if maybe the problem might be the converter going bad. I replaced the transmission and used the old converter. For the most part the car has been running fine, but Saturday we were out and for a minute it felt like I was back to...
We installed the new 727 into the Roadrunner on Sunday, and I fired up the engine and backed the car down the driveway and drove it back up to make sure everything was working, and all felt fine. I was too damn tired to crawl underneath and look at things though.
Yesterday I looked under the...
I wrote previously that I thought my transmission was bad, but now I'm wondering if the problem might have been the torque converter going bad. The problem was the car would not go into gear unless I revved up the engine, then as the RPMs would drop, the trans would go into gear and the car...
I'm talking to a couple of guys who are selling transmissions they had rebuilt for projects that went by the wayside, and the concern I have is if there is a time factor involved in using a rebuild? One was rebuilt 13 years ago. Would/could there be an issue with seals drying up, internal rust...
Well, I knew I fixed my brake issues because the transmission decided to **** the bed. My moments of joy in being able to drive my 74 Roadrunner were brief to say the least. There is a guy selling a rebuilt 727A that he'll make into a 727B using my trans, but I was thinking that maybe before I...
I'm hearing a banging sound coming out of the exhaust of my 74 Roadrunner. I've attached a video showing the engine running. It's idling smoothly and revs fine. But when I move the recording to rear, there's an intermittent banging sound coming out of the mufflers.
Is this a misfire? Did...
I finally got the 73 440 engine I transplanted into the Roadrunner running. It starts and runs, it idles fine and revs fine, but if you shut it off and try to restart it just cranks and cranks. If I let it sit for 4-5 hours and try to restart it will restart then, but only after it sits for a...
I tried starting my 440 in the 74 Roadrunner and I'm getting no fuel. Here's the conditions:
1. There's fuel in the tank.
2. I replaced the pump.
3. I can blow through the fuel line from the carb to the pump, so there's no blockage.
4. When I stalled the pump, I held the push rod up so...
Okay, I fixing to drop a 440 with a 699 pan into my 74 Roadrunner, which has a SB K member. I'm using the Schumacher conversion kit, and looking at the forum and their website I keep seeing either a 699 or 971 will work.
Does anyone know for sure if a 699 will work?
I was wondering about the line cut into the damper shown below. What does it represent? I'm trying to find timing marks on my damper and that's the only mark I see.
