I'm not sure about this, but how much wiggle is tolerable when you jack up front end, grab a tire at 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock and shake? I know newer front-wheel drive cars shouldn't budge. With these 50-year old cars is any movement bad or is a little movement OK?
Car is a 72 RR. Tires wear...
I installed from new torsion bars in the old girl and am trying to set ride height before getting aligned.
Right now I am at
Left --- 10 inches at point A, 9 inches at point B (1 inch ride height)
Right -- 10.25, 9.25 (1 inch ride height)
Two questions (one a dumb one)
1. When I adjust height...
I'm rebuilding my leaky steering pump (1st time I've done this). 72 RR small block Saginaw .94 pump. Do the holes near the top of the flow control valve need to be installed with any particular orientation? I know the hex end goes down but not sure if holes need to go in a certain way. They're...
I was hearing some noise in my steering column after I changed out my power steering box in 72 RR. I pulled column. It appears someone put nylon screw (screws) to replace shear pins at some point in its life. I can't tell if it's sheared. But I thought length from first shear pin hole to end of...
I recently upgraded the front end suspension on 72 RR and my ride height is 5/8 of an inch (difference between bottom of lower ball joint and bottom of adjuster blade). Seems awfully low (FSM calls for 1 5/8). Stance is fine - and I'm not concerned with getting ride height to exactly 1 5/8 -...
I pulled my motor for a winter freshening and noticed a gap between the right LCA and the K frame. Torsion bar is seated correctly and seems fine but this doesn't look right. Driver's side is flush with K-frame. What's going on? Thanks.
I am a newbie to suspension work so bear with me. I am redoing my front end and factory service manual for 72 RR says "Slide tie rod end seal protector over tie rod end." I can't find anything about these on line, I certainly didn't have them on old tie rods and didn't get them with new...
I believe I crossthreaded one of my new upper ball joints (72 RR). It is completely seated (after much effort) and torqued to 120 ft/lbs.
I didn't realize it was crossthreaded because it was such a pain to take old one out and I didn't think twice about it being difficult to screw new one in. So...
I have read many conflicting threads on whether a pinion snubber is needed/wanted on a street car. I have brand new General Spring rear leaf springs with a built 340, 3000 stall, 3.91 gears in a 72 RR. Is a pinion snubber needed? I want to prevent axle windup (if I even have the HP to cause it)...
