So, last week I drove my car to work and the AC quit blowing cold on the way home.
Yesterday I started poking around and as soon as I took off the cap from the port on the back of the compressor, it hissed out 134.
OK, so far easy enough. But when I tried to tighten the valve, it didn't move and...
Both the car and the AC have run MUCH better since I evacuated and replaced the dryer.
No more getting hot in traffic/at stop lights and AC is blowing cooler.
However, and this started before I made the repair-
The bottom of the heater box is getting super cold, almost icy to the touch, and...
Continuing my pressure switch replacement thread here.
Vacuum held overnight.
I was advised (by the parts store) 3.5 cans.
3 cans had 20 pounds (psi?) on the low side and just over 200 on the high side.
Blowing just under 50 degrees.
Added that 4th can and 22# low side 210# high side...
I finally got a chance to pull a vacuum on my AC system and it held nothing, not even for a short time.
The only place I see dye other than where it spilled all over the place from the poorly designed dye injector I bough at Advance Auto...

Turns out the AC lost it's charge.
Fast forward to yesterday >>>>
I now...
Gasket (I think) vented all the gas.
Thinking about getting a new unit.
Any thing I need to be aware of?
This is a factory RV2 R12 system that was converted to R134a some time ago.
Is there anything different between a 134a receiver/dryer and a stock part?
TIA
Last year I put in a mechanical temp gauge (factory gauge was horribly off calibration).
It runs at 165-170 degrees.
I know, but I checked it against an infrared thermometer and it was within 2 degrees.
So anyway, If I run the AC (all stock RV-2 but with 134a professional conversion), it gets...
Hey guys, I looked through six pages of search results and cant find it.
I have a 67 FSM, a Dakota Haynes and three Motor's manuals plus 12 pages of googling.
Nothing.
I swear I've seen it many times.
Anyway, the first time I did the water pump on the Dakota, I put gasket sealer on all the...
