I used to think that Moog was THE brand to use for front end parts.
What happened?
I'm rebuilding the front end in this car:
I ordered a front end rebuild kit from PST but I'm using up some of my NOS stuff from my stash first. I messed up one LCA bushing installation and needed just one.
My...
Our Sacramento based Mopar club has had a variety of members over the years, some brilliant, some not.
One guy stood up at a meeting to tell how he planned to paint several parts in his restoration of a mid 70s truck. He said that the factories would dip some parts in paint and not spray them...
My recent experiences with automotive air conditioning installations have me curious about modifying hard lines to make a more custom fitted system.
Here is an example.....My own '70 Charger.
The #8 aluminum line is prebent by Classic Auto Air to fit around a battery. My battery is in the...
This is a serious question.
Bad news goes everywhere but good news often hides in the shadows. I know that there are many of you that have never had a cam go flat so let's hear from you!
Before I went all Mopar, I had a few Chevys. I never had a cam go bad with them despite Chevrolet having a...
One of the stark differences in older cars and newer ones is the amount of noise that is heard while driving at freeway speeds.
I can go for a ride in a newer Challenger and feel somewhat isolated from the outside world.
The same road and duration in my '70 Charger and I feel overstimulated...
The goal for your car can be whatever you want. Some buy a Mopar to go racing with it, some just want a nice cruiser to tinker on.
I wanted a fast car that handled well and was reliable. I planned on driving the car miles away from home and wanted it to do it without breakdowns.
Back in 1988, it...
I read on Mopar Action awhile back about these new battery jumper boxes:
These are interesting. I like the idea of having something lightweight and compact to bring with any vehicle I'm taking on road trips. No need for getting help from someone else for a jump start if you accidently...
Today I stumbled upon a small stash of UNused oil in bottles that had no date code on them but did have the SAE API circle with ratings of SD and SF.
I thought that I was told that the higher in the alphabet the second letter was, the higher the detergent level.
In short, an oil like this...
I just was thinking about the VINs on these cars.
The question I'm pondering IS: Does the last 6 numbers, aka "sequence number", depend on the first 7 characters?
In other words....For example, a VIN XP29G0G indicates a 1970 Dodge Charger 500 with a 318 built in St Louis. Lets say the sequence...
I am helping a buddy do an A/C conversion in his car, it currently has a single groove pulley on a good alternator.
I have some dual groove pulleys here.
What is the process to change pulleys?
This is a standard appearing aftermarket alternator with some output rating higher than stock.
Thanks!

The EPA falls back on its hard-core push to eliminate aftermarket “defeat devices.”

As the well-abused news phrase goes, "in a dramatic turn of events," the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released...
I have a curious mind and am always wondering about stuff like this.
Recently, I was at a car show and noticed that my front tires were almost bald on the edges. I had it aligned months ago. It steers, handles and drives great. I'm sure it had more tread when I brought it to that shop.
I've...
Hey there....
My red '70 Charger ( Ginger) was coded for and still has the 2 speed windshield wipers in it. I have never had any trouble with them nor had to do any service to them. The wiper pivots do leak and I have the gaskets and seals to do the job but I'm considering a switch to the 3...
I have a steel power steering cooler in my 70 Charger and have been looking for spares. Mine came from a mid 80s M body police car. Diplomats and Gran Fury models had them.
Mine is attached to a Saginaw power steering pump.
These donor cars are harder to find than they were in the early 2000s...
Think about it. How many parts including the block, heads, gaskets and hardware....
100 parts? 200 ?
This is merely for the purposes of conversation.
300 ?
Let's assume an engine runs fine and does not detonate. It has closed chamber heads but the head gaskets are thick so it has no realistic quench.
Then a piston swap is done where the new slugs are dished on one side and at zero deck on the other. Now it has quench yet the compression ratio is...
The auto manufacturers have done an excellent job of isolating the outside world from the inside in all the new cars that I have seen. I've been in some that are so quiet, you almost couldn't tell that there is a gasoline burning V8 up front.
This is absolutely NOT the case with the old cars...
The glass has almost no scratches but there are streaks like this on the left side and on the windshield.
I have tried gasoline, thinking it was some type of oil on the glass. I've tried some auto parts store window cleaning paste and even windex....Nothing has worked so far.
Any...
I know that there is a factory spec for measuring this but for many years, I have just measured from the pavement to the middle of the wheel opening arch like so:
Mine measures 24" in the front.....
....And 26" in the rear.
The front is just barely on the bumpstops. I have 1.15" torsion...
