I'm working on piecing my '68 GTX (non-ralley dash) together, and I bought my car in a million pieces 43 years ago, so I don't have a pattern to follow and I personally didn't take it apart.

what is the purpose of the raised thin stamped steel piece tacked on the inside of the front drum backing plate?
I assume it's some sort of grease cup that catches excess grease that oozes from the inner wheel bearing seal?? When I re-assemble it am I supposed to pack in grease, a foam seal...
